MatsuLab–The Logo
|
The MatsuLAB logo contains several different aspects that are inherent to our lab:
- The red tree is a reference to the Japanese meaning of the name “Akamatsu”: aka (red) + matsu (tree)
- The roots are made of actin, a cytoskeletal protein that is important for several cellular processes, including endocytosis.
- The right branches are made of computational networks, symbolizing the computational branch of our lab.
- The left branches symbolize the experimental branch of our lab.
- The “moon” is actually a depiction of endocytosis, the process in which substances are brought into the cell and the main focus of our lab.
- the “cloud” behind our tree is a real picture of our Discourse Graph.

MatsuLab–The Acronym
|
While coming up with a lab name and acronym, we went through several iterations, some better than others. Eventually, we landed on “Multidisciplinary Actin Techniques for Scientific Understanding.” Some ideas we ended up dropping, include:
- Modeling Actin Through Shared Understanding
- Modeling Actin ‘Tis SUpreme
- Modelers of Actin Tenaciously Scouring the Unknown
- Mechanisms of Actin Taking (over the) Universe
