On Tuesday January 28, 2020, our Director of the UW Tacoma Milgard Center for Business Analytics, Haluk Demirkan, Ph.D., PMP, gave a presentation at the January IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis) Seattle Chapter Meeting in downtown Seattle. The title of his talk was Future of Work for Business Analysis with Analytics & Smart Machines.
Abstract:
There is no doubt that computers are increasingly capable of doing things that humans could once do exclusively. Smart machines are gaining human capabilities, such as recognizing voices, processing natural language, and interacting and learning with the physical world through vision, smell, touch, mobility and motor control. In some cases, these machines do a much faster and better job than people at recognizing patterns, performing rule-based analysis from very large amounts of data, and solving structured and unstructured problems. Moreover, of course, data & analytics are on the core of this smart-machine enabled digital transformation. It is obvious that the role of a business analyst in 2020 will become increasingly digital-focused. According to IBM, the number of job profiles for all US business analysts who are analytics & digital-savvy is set to increase from 364,000 openings to 2,720,000 in next few years. We will discuss about how to become next generation business analysts who collaborate with smart machines to co-create value.
Haluk’s presentation was very well received by the attendees leading to a lively discussion thereafter. We thank IIBA for inviting Haluk to present at their Seattle Chapter meeting in January.
