In late April 2020, the Milgard Center for Business Analytics (CBA) was invited to attend the UW Tacoma Campus Technology Committee meeting to share the technology ecosytem created and utilized in our center’s data and analytics education programs.  Attending from the CBA included Haluk Demirkan, Ph.D. – Milgard Professor and Director, UW Tacoma Center for Business Analytics and Master of Science in Business Analytics, Merve Kayhan Serter, M.S. – CBA Technologist and Michael Helser, Ph.D. – CBA Program Manager.

Merve Kayhan Serter focused on sharing her creation of Microsoft Azure Lab Services for use by students in the Master of Science of Business Analytics (MSBA) program and in our Foundations for Data Analytics Certificate courses.  Her innovative application of Virtual Lab Services provides on-demand use of a virtual lab whereby students no longer need to install programs and software on their own computers.  The labs are secure, pay-as-you-go and are simple to deploy.  While there are cons to consider in the adoption of this technology, they are manageable and we anticipate the pros to continue to outweigh the cons moving forward as the technology matures.

The CBA is excited to lead in adopting and utilizing next-generation technologies in our education programs.  If you’d like to learn more about data and analytics education opportunities at UW Tacoma, please visit our CBA website.

Thanks to Patrick Pow – Vice Chancellor for Information Technology, for the opportunity to share our technology and programs in the Milgard Center for Business Analytics.
