UW Tacoma Milgard Center for Business Analytics announced its participation in AWS Academy, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) program that provides higher education institutions with a ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum. Beginning in Autumn 2021, various courses will be offered to prepare students to pursue careers in the fast-growing cloud computing and data analytics space and industry-recognized AWS Certifications.

The AWS Academy curriculum is developed and maintained by AWS subject matter experts, ensuring that it reflects current services and up-to-date best practices. Courses are taught by AWS Academy-accredited educators who are trained by AWS to help students become proficient in AWS technology. “We are proud to make the AWS Academy curriculum available to our students.” said founder and former director of Milgard CBA Dr. Haluk Demirkan who initiated and leaded UW Tacoma’s participation in AWS Academy and he added, “AWS Academy brings together higher education institutions, students, and industry leaders to address the cloud skills gap and meet the need for thousands of new cloud computing, data engineering and data science professionals. By offering AWS-authored courses and learning resources to educators, we are investing in higher education at large, supporting educators and administrators as they prepare their students to join the 21st-century workforce.”

As the Technical Program Manager of the Milgard Center for Business Analytics, I’m so excited about offering this comprehensive resource to our students. The rapid rise of cloud computing is creating a growing number of high-quality jobs at organizations around the world and I truly believe that the technical skills that students develop through this program will position them well for their careers today and in the future.
