Milgard School of Business Master of Science in Business Analytics Faculty presented much-awaited data analytics series in UW Tacoma’s Computer Literacy Seminars. The series featured an introduction to data analytics through its methods and applications. Participants from all UWT (Students, Faculty, and Staff) learned how to analyze large volumes of data and make better business decisions using different data analysis methods. Session 1: Data Exploration and Data Modeling
This session introduces CRISP-DM – a methodology for understanding how business problems are solved with data-based solutions. It also gives an example of this using NHANES data (a health care data set). This session is presented by MSBA Faculty Dr. Margo Bergman and Michael Turek.

Session 2: People Analytics and Bias in Machine Learning
This session provides a brief overview of the emerging field of people analytics, including case studies, methodological tools, and ethical consequences. Additionally, it provides a brief overview of the bias of machine learning algorithms, including types of bias, and their consequences. This session is presented by MSBA Faculty Dr. Arthur Jago and Dr. Sergio Davalos.
