Mindful Meals Healthy Diet

Mobile App for Healthy Diet

Welcome and thank you for your interest in our research study, ‘Mobile Support for Healthy Eating!’

This study is conducted by the University of Washington, School of Nursing.

Overview

We are looking for adults age 65 and older with memory loss who are interested in new solutions designed to support healthy eating. By participating in this program, you will monitor your meals with our mobile app and receive a variety of health recommendations such as tailored healthy recipes and text messages!

Purpose

The primary purpose of our study is to evaluate a new mobile intervention that allows people to track their diet and receive personalized recommendations. Our study will span 3 months.

Compensation

If you are selected for the study and you complete all twelve weeks, you can receive a gift card up to $250 for your contribution and time. The payments will be provided at the end of the assessments and will not be pro-rated. The breakdown of payment is as follows:

Participation in Baseline Assessment $50
Participation in Follow-up Assessment $200
Maximum total $250

Note: In order to receive a full $250 gift card, you must fully participate in the intervention, and complete questionnaires/assessment before and after the study. Otherwise, your compensation amount may be less than the maximum amount.

Timeline

If you are found eligible, you will be randomly (like flipping a coin) assigned to one of two study groups. One group will use a new mobile app, and the second group will use a website.

During the 3-month study, there will be two in-person meetings, where a research nurse would visit you in your own home or invite you to the University of Washington at a time convenient for you. The visits will last 2-3 hours and involve answering questions about yourself and your health, together with some measurements, e.g., weight, grip strength, times walking speed.

** If you change your mind during the study and no longer want to participate, you are able to do so at any point in the study. Simply send us an email and we will terminate your participation and send you a gift card for the amount you had participated.
