In the September of 2022, UW Medicine Primary Care began our pilot of the URiM (underrepresented in medicine) Shadow Program. This is an undergraduate shadowing experience where students can expect to view regular daily processes in a Primary Care clinic, build connections with potential mentors, and learn more about careers in health care.
Program goals and details:
- Enabling underrepresented groups to gain more access to potential mentors and in-person experience within a Primary Care setting.
- Outline next steps to take toward a career in healthcare.
- Students will be matched with one Primary Care Provider for 4 hours a week for 6 consecutive weeks.
Pilot Program Details
The Pilot began with the MAPS (Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students) team. Once the pilot completes in late October, we will begin a review of progress and process improvements before branching out to include additional URiM student groups.
Feel free to contact our URiM Shadow Program team if you work with an undergraduate organization that would like to join future seasons of this shadowing program.
