UW Structural Research Laboratory

      The SRL is a versatile facility for performing large-scale structural engineering experiments on civil infrastructure components and systems. The SRL features a strong floor and strong wall that can be used to apply large static and dynamic loads.

The lab offers several unique pieces of equipment:

  • A digital servo-controlled 2.4 million pound Universal Testing Machine used for research and commercial tests.
  • High capacity dynamic actuators that can cycle structural and other large capacity components to large displacements.
  • Dual-camera Optotrak system for movement capture.
  • Panel Element Tester : The tester is an advanced apparatus that can apply arbitrary combinations of in-plane stresses to thin membrane specimens.

UW X-Ray Computed Tomography Facility

 The Computed Tomography Facility (CTF) provides access to an NSI X5000 scanning system, a powerful instrument used for visualizing internal components of objects. This interdisciplinary facility offers researchers a method of non-destructive testing and is widely utilized by engineers, biologists, anthropologists, earth scientists and others. The CT scanner offers:

  • 2D X-ray images
  • 3D computed tomography models
  • Digital information on geometry and density
