Extents and Spacings of Model Grids

Broadband ground motions were developed from the M9 simulations for seven grids (A, B, C, D, E, Y and Z), each corresponding to a particular combination of region and/or grid resolution.

  • The A grid has sites with 1 km spacing for the Puget Sound region (latitude ranges from 46.9 to 48.3, longitude ranges from -123.2 to -121.1).
  • The B grid has sites with 20 km spacing for the entire area of the simulation (latitudes range from 40.3 to 48.6, longitudes range from -127.7 to -125.4).
  • The C grid has sites on a 1 km grid for the Portland, Oregon area (latitudes range from 45.2 to 45.9, longitudes range from -123.3 to -122.2).
  • The D grid has sites on a 1 km grid for the Vancouver, BC area (latitudes range from 49.0 to 49.4, longitudes range from -123.3 to -122.4).
  • The E grid has sites on a 1 km grid for the Victoria, BC area (latitudes range from 48.3 to 48.7, longitudes range from -123.9 to -123.2).
  • The Y and Z grid locations were selected based on the subset of seismic monitoring station locations operated by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, as well as a selection of cities across the Pacific Northwest.

The figure below shows the extent for each grid designation.

Each site name consists of an alphanumeric designation that is 6 characters long. The first character is a grid letter that refers to a particular region and grid resolution. The latitude and longitude for all sites can be downloaded (CSV) here.
