About

The Pre-Pharmacy Club at the University of Washington aims to be the #1 resource on campus for students interested in pharmacy. In addition to retail and community pharmacy, the field offers other opportunities in the clinical and business side and we hope to enlighten you of these opportunities through our guest speakers and our exciting field trips. Meetings are usually held every other Wednesday at 5:30pm in Sieg 224 so be sure to stop by and learn more about pharmacy. We have pizza too. 🙂

Constitution

The Pre-Pharmacy Club was founded in 1996 by Anne Lee, a Pharmacy Student. Anne established this club for the purpose of being a resource to undergraduates interested in Pharmacy. The new officers of 2019-2020 also have a responsibility to carry on this goal.

ARTICLE I – Name

The name of this organization shall be “Pre-Pharmacy Club.”

ARTICLE II – Purpose

The Pre-Pharmacy Club was formed to

  • Provide students with special interest to join a group where they can share their ideas and concerns,

  • Serve as an informational and resource center for students,

  • Facilitate students’ understanding of the pharmacy profession, and

  • Provide students with leadership opportunities.

First, the Pre-Pharmacy Club provides students with special interests, a forum for sharing ideas and concerns. Meetings are held every other week with activities, including guest speakers (from the UW Pharmacy School, UW Medical Center, community pharmacies, and more), field trips (to local UW facilities, community pharmacies and drug companies), and videos (that usually cover recent medical issues).

Second, the Pre-Pharmacy Club serves as an information and resource center. The organization provides essential information on the application process, the interview process, different schools in the US, journal articles, volunteer opportunities, and contact numbers and addresses. Also, the officers serve as a basic resource.

Third, the Pre-Pharmacy Club helps students understand their field of interest by exposing them to the key players of the field (UW Pharmacy students, faculty, pharmacists, etc…). Field trips provide first hand experience of the environment that the members may have to face in the future, which helps students decide if pharmacy is an optimal choice for them.

Finally, the Pre-Pharmacy provides students with leadership opportunities by informing them of the volunteer opportunities available in the community.

ARTICLE III – Officers

All officers will be required to attend all officer and general meetings, participate in club projects organized by officers and attend 1-2 scheduled mock interviews. Exceptions to attending meetings must be school or work related absences approved in advance. Club projects tasks organized and assigned by officers must be completed by given deadline. Mock interviews will be scheduled around officer schedules. In order to become an officer, candidates must run during an election held at the end of the school year by current officers. Voting will be opened to the club and running officers must receive the majority vote to be eligible for officer position.

The following are descriptions of officer duties that are expected for the 2019-2020 academic year. All positions are subject to termination. If an officer fails to complete the duties expected of them they will give up their position to a more compliant individual. First violation of contract will result in meeting with officers; second violation will result in termination. These contracts are to ensure fairness to all officers as each person completes the necessary task and others are not required to pick up the slack. If everyone does their jobs we will maximize the success of our club with a smooth flowing and enjoyable year!
