Why Quantum?
Quantum computing is a revolutionary approach to computation that leverages the principles of quantum mechanics. Quantum computers have the potential to solve complex problems in fields like cryptography, optimization, and simulation, paving the way for advancements with profound implications across various industries. While the technology is currently in it’s infancy, there is a pressing need to start developing a workforce around quantum technologies so that they can be quickly adopted and integrated into existing infrastructures. The environment is a dynamic and exciting place, perfect for young researchers to leave their mark on future technologies!

Who we are
The University of Washington lies in the heart of the Northwest Quantum Nexus and is positioned to be a major player in the upcoming quantum revolution. Our goal is to help students of all levels use quantum computers to solve big problems, so that they can become important members of this ecosystem. We are structured so that members are able to take full ownership of their projects, from inception to deployment. While prior experience with quantum computing is not required, familiarity with OOP programming principles and working in a Linux environment is a huge plus!

Now soliciting proposals to use GPU resources for quantum projects!
We are now inviting proposals for quantum computation projects! Our activities are centered around using high-performance computing (HPC) to aid in the development of quantum algorithms. To this end, we have dedicated nodes (4 L40 GPU and 64 CPU) on Hyak that members may use to run projects related to quantum simulation. We are targeting members of the UW community who want to use quantum computing to solve problems of interest. In particular, students who may not be familiar with quantum simulation but have domain expertise — e.g. chemistry, biology, engineering, finance — are welcome to submit a proposal. If you have an idea for a project to run, please visit here.
Once submitted, our leadership will review your proposal and contact you regarding next steps. Submissions will be accepted through the beginning of the next academic year, and projects will begin shortly after. Prior background in quantum simulation and use of HPC resources is not required.
Join us! UW students, faculty and staff may become members here.
