Frequently Asked Questions

You are always welcome to reach out to us with any questions by emailing us at dawgs@uw.edu.  See below for some common questions and answers. We will continue to add information to this page throughout the summer so check back as you have questions that come up!

How can I apply for DAWGS Crew?

The DAWGS Crew application for the 2025-2026 academic year has closed! Please return next year if you’re interested in applying.

When will I receive a schedule with my assigned shifts?

As you can imagine, scheduling 650+ volunteers takes a lot of time. We are hoping to have the schedule sent out for you by the end of August or very early September. If you have any concerns about your shifts, please let us know via email.

Will I be charged for my early arrival housing when I move-in and participate in DAWGS Crew?

No! One of the perks of volunteering as a DAWGS Crew member is you get to move-in early, at no charge to you! You must complete your all of your assigned volunteer shifts in order to not be charged for your early arrival.

What happens if I can’t volunteer anymore, and I need to cancel?

We understand that conflicts come up. Please email us at dawgs@uw.edu with your cancellation notice. You can cancel with no charge anytime before September 1, 2025. If you cancel after September 1, 2025, you will be charged the early arrival housing fee because at that point we are not able to change your arrival date.

How many volunteer shifts should I expect to have?

You can expect to work 3 volunteer shifts (between 3.5 and 4 hours each) between September 16 and September 19, 2025.

Do I need any previous leadership experience to volunteer?

No! You do not need any previous experience to apply with DAWGS Crew.

Are there any other time commitments outside of the September 16-19 period?

Yes! You will be required to stop by on Registration Day which will be Monday, September 15. You can stop by anytime between 10am – 3:30pm to pick up your nametag, dining meal card, DAWGS t-shirt, snacks for your shifts, and your volunteering packet.

If I am a 12-month resident, do I get early arrival housing?

No. DAWGS Crew volunteers that live in 12-month housing do not receive early arrival housing, as their move-in date precedes the DAWGS Crew early move-in date. 12-month residents move in on Monday, September 8th.

How much dining money will I receive for volunteering?

Volunteers working only for 9-month move-in receive $30 in dining money. Our two additional roles provide more funds on top of 9-month move-in: College Edge (formerly Early Fall Start) volunteers receive an extra $15 in dining money, and Package Crew volunteers receive an extra $30 in dining money. Furthermore, we may inform you about more volunteer options that also offer compensation!
