Each of our residential communities has a hall/community council that plan fun events for the residents and advocate for themselves and others while living on campus. It is a great community to meet new people, build your resume with transferrable skills, and make a difference in the place you live!
Note: Hall/Community Councils may be referred to by different names that best fit the group/community. These names include: Hall Council, Community Council, and Residents Association

There are many opportunities that are available to students who are interested in joining hall council. There are executive board positions, representative positions, and general council positions open for anyone interested in applying. Please see below for information on each type of position.
Executive Board Positions
Students serving on the executive board can expect to attend weekly hall council and executive board meetings. Many executive board members will be overseeing the work of other students on their hall council or will be responsible for areas of community development within the group. Such areas may include programming, communications, recruitment & retention, and representation. Executive Board members can expect to spend approximately 4-6 hours per week on Hall Council. - Responsible for assisting the Advisor with oversight of community council executive board
- Facilitates weekly hall council meeting
- Facilitates, in concert with Advisor, weekly hall council executive board meeting
- Creates agenda, in collaboration with Advisor, for general council and executive board meetings
- Facilitates monthly 1:1s with hall council executive board
- Attends weekly 1:1 meeting with Advisor
- Attends RCSA meetings when community presents funding proposals to support representatives
- Other duties as assigned by Advisor
- Responsible, in concert with Advisor, for the oversight of RCSA, ASUW, BAC, and SEED representatives
- Attends weekly RCSA general council meetings (Wednesdays 4:30pm)
- Facilitates hall council vote for any necessary RCSA legislation/initiative
- Follows up with representatives who miss weekly meetings to encourage consistent participation
- Checks in regularly with representatives
- Attends bi-weekly meetings with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with Hall Council Director
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Attends weekly executive board meetings
- Serves as point of contact for marketing for community council sponsored programming efforts
- Works in collaboration with AD for Programming for marketing
- Manages community council social media sites (if applicable) & collaborates with adviser to provide content for community Facebook page
- Records minutes from general council meetings and executive board meetings weekly
- Distributes weekly general council minutes to all community council members
- Works in collaboration with Assistant Director for Recruitment & Retention to disseminate information out to residents about community council regularly (social media, flyers, posters, emails, etc.)
- Attends bi-weekly meetings with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with Hall Council Director
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Attends weekly executive board meetings
- Serves as the point of contact for programming efforts in community
- Facilitates goal setting conversation regarding programming in hall council at the beginning of each quarter
- Completes programming form audits in IHFS quarterly (by end of week 10 each quarter)
- Submits any RCSA funding proposal forms (initial form, presentation slides, follow up form)
- Coordinates presenters for funding proposal requests in RCSA general council
- Attends bi-weekly meetings with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with Hall Council Director
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Attends weekly executive board meetings
- Coordinates quarterly hall council bonding activity
- Coordinates weekly activities at General Council meetings to welcome and include members
- Icebreakers, energizers, games, etc.
- Coordinate community council recognition efforts
- Should focus on utilizing RCSA Dubs Up! Awards as a foundation for recognition
- Attends bi-weekly meetings with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with Hall Council Director
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Attends weekly executive board meetings
Representative Positions
Students serving in representative roles can expect to attend weekly hall council and one additional meeting per week. The additional meeting is with another student leadership or Housing & Food Services organization and the representative’s role is to synthesize information provided and report back to your Hall Council. Representative roles are available in the areas of sustainability, budget & financing, student conduct, student advocacy, and student government. Representatives can expect to spend approximately 3-4 hours per week on Hall Council. See below for more information on our Representative roles:
- Attends weekly RCSA general council meetings (Wednesdays at 4:30pm)
- Provides regular updates in hall council about RCSA
- Facilitates hall council vote for any necessary RCSA legislation/initiative
- Attends quarterly meeting with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with AD for Representation
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- 1 representative per community
- Attend weekly BAC meetings (Thursdays at 5:30pm)
- Attend weekly general council meetings (Mondays; time TBD by adviser)
- Provide regular updates in general council about BAC
- Facilitate formal presentation to general council about the rates proposal process in Winter Quarter
- Attend monthly 1:1 meetings with AD of Representation
- Attends weekly hall caucus meeting led by RCSA Director of External Affairs
- Attends weekly ASUW Senate meeting (Tuesdays at 5:30pm)
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Provides regular updates in hall council about ASUW and campus initiatives
- Engages in discussion with hall council members to gather student opinion
- Attends quarterly meeting with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with AD for Representation
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
- Advocates for community to UW Dining
- Brings inquiries from community to Dining Advisory Board meetings
- Attends all Dining Advisory Board meetings
- Attends weekly SEED general council meetings (Thursdays at 5:30pm)
- Provides regular updates in hall council about SEED
- Facilitates hall council vote for any necessary SEED legislation/initiative
- Attends quarterly meeting with Hall Council Advisor
- Attends monthly meetings with AD for Representation
- Attends weekly hall council meetings
Floor Representative/General Member
Students serving in a floor representative or general member role can expect to attend weekly hall council meetings. They also can expect to provide student input on various initiatives happening across Housing & Food Services. There are additional opportunities for general members to be involved in committees and program planning within the hall council as well. Floor representatives/general members can expect to spend approximately 1-2 hours per week on Hall Council. Other responsibilities include:
- Voting privileges on community and campus initiatives
- Attend weekly general council meetings
- Opportunity to be involved in a variety of committees
- Provides updates in general council regarding activities on floor
