CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP YEAR (CFY) IN MEDICAL SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY
The Bay Pines (Florida) VA Healthcare System announces the availability of a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) opportunity.

The appointment is for 12 months, 2080 hours. There is a stipend of $38,879, an employer share of FICA of $2,974, and an employer share of benefits of $4,618 for a total funds allocation of $46,471. The starting date will between July and September 2015 depending on the availability of the selected candidate. The position is located at the CW Bill Young VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, Florida. Bay Pines is among the busiest of VA Healthcare Systems nationwide. The Speech Pathology Section is comprised of 3.5 FTEE and is part of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service. Veterans are referred from Medicine, Surgery, Geriatrics/Extended Care (Community Living Center), and the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service as well as from throughout the Healthcare System which includes the Lee County Health Center and CBOCs in Palm Harbor, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Bradenton, Sebring, Port Charlotte and Naples.
The Bay Pines campus is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast in the Tampa Bay area, just northwest of downtown St. Petersburg, south of Clearwater, and west across the Bay from Tampa. The campus consists of in excess of 40 buildings on 337 acres. In addition to the medical center, a regional office and national cemetery are located on the grounds.
From our campus and just distant to a breathtaking view of Boca Ciega Bay are the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Prepare to engage in a clinical fellowship year designed to be thought-provoking and both clinically and professionally challenging. Experience and participate in the evaluation and treatment/management of communicative, cognitive and swallowing disorders; administration, interpretation and clinical implementation related to desk-type measuring instruments; instrumental procedures such as the videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing, videostroboscopy, and the endoscopic evaluation of swallowing; alaryngeal speech rehabilitation with emphasis on tracheoesophageal puncture; the evaluation, management, and selection of alternative/augmentative communication devices/systems; and interventions with polytrauma/traumatic brain injury, cognitive and memory disorder. Interdisciplinary opportunities are prolific. Outcomes/Evidence-based practice for treatment across communicative, cognitive and swallowing disorders is emphasized.
