The Speech-Language Pathology Section at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is pleased to announce one (1) Clinical Fellowship position available for Fiscal Year 2018, with desired start in Summer/Fall 2017.
Clinical Fellows participate in a truly interdisciplinary team approach to evaluate and treat patients served within the medical center. Patients served cross the age span from young adult through older adult populations. Primarily, clinical fellows may evaluate and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders related to stroke, a wide variety of medical diagnoses and degenerative diseases, and exposure to patients with traumatic brain injury and polytrauma. Fellows are active participants in the care of patients in medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units (acute, subacute), outpatient clinics, and intensive care units. They participate in interdisciplinary conferences and rounds, family conferences, co-treatments with other service providers, group therapy sessions, and local and national data collection (e.g. FIM and other outcomes measures). The Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a specialty site for Assistive Technology, a TBI Center of Excellence and is one of five recognized Polytrauma Centers in the national VA system. McGuire VAMC offers CARF-accredited programs in inpatient rehabilitation for amputation, brain Injury, and spinal cord injury, residential transitional rehabilitation for brain Injury, and outpatient brain injury.
Richmond, VA is a diverse city with big city appeal but a small-town feel. Richmond is well known for its historical sites and excellent art and science museums. Additionally, Richmond is situated a 2-hour drive from either the beach, the mountains or Washington, DC.

This one-year position will be full-time (40hrs/week) and includes full benefits.
