International Student Services and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions have an outstanding opportunity for a part-time, temporary Graduate Staff Assistant to work for 3 quarters, from September 16, 2017 – June 15, 2018. This position offers a valuable, hands-on opportunity to learn about and assist international students through the academic cycle from initial inquiry to graduation. RESPONSIBILITIES Within Admissions: Within ISS: DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: September 16, 2017 – June 15, 2018 HOURS: 740 hours over 17 pay periods. This is 37 weeks from Sept. 16, 2017 – June 15, 2018 which is approximately 20 hours per week with one week off in December during the winter quarter break and one week off in March for the SALARY: Tuition plus standard salary. Salary is commensurate with student standing. CREDIT LOAD: Must be formally enrolled as a UW graduate student for at least 10 credits each quarter for fall, winter, and spring quarters. UNION POSITION: This job classification is governed by a negotiated labor contract and is subject to union shop provisions. REQUIREMENTS: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
• Currently enrolled UW graduate student • Strong interest in international education as a career • Desire to learn, apply, and communicate complex immigration regulations and university policy • Ability to relate and communicate positively with students from culturally diverse backgrounds and whose first language may not be English • Excellent written and verbal skills, especially writing professional emails that represent the UW • Reliable, self-starter with careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high traffic environment • Learn quickly and apply complicated assessment guidelines in the review of applications without personal bias Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. |
