The USC Voice Center, Tina and Rick Caruso Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Southern California will provide one highly qualified Speech Language Pathology graduated master’s student with a complete 12 month, full time, paid fellowship position dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of people with voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders. The USC Voice Center uses an inter-professional practice model staffed by specialists in Laryngology and Speech-Language Pathology who are recognized for their expertise and mentorship in disorders of voice, swallowing and upper airway. The Fellow will work closely with the faculty in interdisciplinary voice, dysphagia, and upper airway clinics gaining the experience needed to become a skilled independent practitioner under the mentorship of the USC Voice Center faculty. The candidate will be a member of the cutting edge Otolaryngology department at USC and have the benefits of academic and research endeavors with Otolaryngology residents, fellows, audiologists, and other faculty.
This clinical fellowship year offers experience and training in both diagnostic and therapeutic care of voice, professional voice, dysphagia, and upper airway disorders. The Fellow will receive training in instrumental assessment, including advanced flexible and rigid endoscopic laryngeal imaging, FEES, modified barium swallow studies and acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment. Care of the patient with laryngeal dystonia in inter-professional medical procedure clinics will provide the fellow with experience not often garnered during a clinical fellowship year. Clinical research opportunities are a hallmark of the fellowship given the resources offered through Keck Medicine of USC.
The candidate must have attended an accredited graduate program in speech-language pathology and have completed a master’s level course of study prior to beginning the position. All applicants must have graduate transcripts that allow for completion of the required California state temporary licensure (PCE for CF applicants). Licensure is a 4-8 weeks process and must be completed prior to the start date.
The candidate must have solid experience in the evaluation and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders through graduate student work. The candidate must present a strong academic background. Experience in working with the singing or acting voice is preferred.
Dates of the fellowship: August 1, 2018-July 31, 2019 (fellowship runs one year from start date)

- 2 letters of recommendation. One letter must be from someone who directly supervised the candidate’s clinical experience.
