Exciting 4th Year Externship Opportunity – Santa Fe, NM
Southwestern Ear, Nose & Throat (SWENT) has served the health needs of Santa Fe and the
communities of northern New Mexico since 1986. The Hearing and Balance Center of SWENT is
the only medically-based audiology and hearing aid practice in Santa Fe. Our physicians,
audiologists and support staff work cohesively to provide patients with the best care possible.
We have an immediate opportunity for a 4th year audiology student to join our team! This is an
excellent opportunity where you will work alongside our audiologists and physicians in a
cohesive manner to provide the best experience for our patients. Our culture is one that

The student will work on a team responsible for administering a full range of diagnostic services, including ABR, OAE, VNG, ECOG, Newborn screenings, BAHA evaluations and follow-
up. There will also be opportunities to dispense hearing aids, as well as take part in consultations, fittings, counseling and community outreach.
Our goal for each audiology extern is to gain real world experience working with patients of all
ages by providing comprehensive services under the supervision of an appropriately licensed
and certified audiologist. The experience we provide will enable the student to become a
competent and highly coveted audiology professional.
Skills to have mastered prior to start:
• Basic Diagnostic Audiology evaluation with differential diagnosis
• Experience with adults and pediatrics
• Experience with ABR, VNG, OAE
• Hearing aid dispensing with adult population, including counseling and follow up
• Good report writing skills
• Basic audiology foundation
• Demonstrated ability to manage patients independently
Skills the student is expected to learn/demonstrate:
• Strengthen basic clinical skills
• Manage patient assessment and evaluation
• Manage a full caseload
• Strengthen patient counseling skills
• Communication with other medical providers in a professional manner
This is a full-time, paid position with a salary of $40,000, eligible for health insurance, paid
time off and company holidays.
