Albany is proof that upstate New York is every bit as alluring as the Big Apple. Situated
on the banks of the Hudson River 150 miles north of New York City, Albany has grown
from a modest Dutch settlement into a thriving metropolis full of attractions for the whole
family. Albany isn’t just the capital of New York; it is also the economic and cultural
center of the state, boasting a rich and diverse history. Albany is renowned for its culture,
architecture, and bountiful outdoor opportunities. Catch a play, musical performance or
art exhibit at one of the city’s world-class venues such as the Palace Theater or The Egg
for a fun afternoon or evening out. Feeling hungry? Albany is home to a wide range of
restaurants, from cozy corner pubs to trendy spots with outdoor patios, where the people
watching is almost as good as the fresh and flavorful local cuisine. Looking for quiet
solitude instead or a chance to enjoy a little fresh air? Albany has more than 60 public
parks and recreation areas, with year-round events such as the popular Tulip Festival in
May. With a population of just under 100,000 people, an emphasis on higher education,
and a strong local economy traditionally immune to national economic recessions,
