Tenure-Track Faculty Position, Cal State-LA (Los Angeles, CA)

Position: Department of Communication Disorders

Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Motor Speech Disorders; Adult Neurogenic Language Disorders; Voice Disorders; Alternative/Augmentative Communication; or Fluency Disorders.

Starting Date: August 2019

Minimum Qualifications: 1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Speech-Language Pathology or other closely-related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by date of appointment (8/19/19). 2) Evidence of teaching, clinical and/or research experience in one or more of the following areas: Motor Speech Disorders, Adult Neurogenic Language Disorders, Voice Disorders, Alternative/Augmentative Communication, or Fluency Disorders;

Preferred Qualifications: 1) Evidence of national certification in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP). 2) Evidence of eligibility to obtain or possession of California licensure in speech-language pathology. 3) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. 4) Evidence of scholarly achievement (e.g., academic or professional presentations, publications in refereed journals) in speech-language pathology or closely related area.

Duties: The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise and other courses in the department in consultation with the Department Chair. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical education in the on-campus Robert L. Douglass Speech-Language Clinic.

Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The College: The Rongxiang Xu College of Health of Human Services is composed of nationally ranked undergraduate, graduate and professional programs spread across seven departments and schools. The Department/Division/School: The Department of Communication Disorders is located in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services and offers programs leading to the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Disorders, and an AuD in audiology. The M.A. degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Admission to the M.A. program is highly competitive. The eight-year first- time pass rate for the PRAXIS exam in Speech-Language Pathology is 100%. On-site Language Labs are located in the department as well as a Speech-Language Clinic, and access to a large variety of off-campus training sites.
