UR Medicine – Strong Memorial Hospital is a leading academic healthcare institution located in Rochester, NY between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region. Strong Memorial Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center accommodating approximately 800 acute inpatient beds. UR Medicine is the Region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center and also holds an Acute Rehabilitation Unit that is both CARF and Magnet accredited. The Voice Center is part of the University of Rochester’s Department of Otolaryngology which consists of 23 otolaryngology physicians, with specialties in pediatrics, otology / neurotology, rhinology, allergy, sleep medicine, head and neck cancer, laryngology, and facial plastics. The Voice Center consists of two fellowship trained laryngologists, and five speech-language pathologists who specialize in the treatment of voice, professional voice, breathing and swallowing disorders.
The Voice Center is seeking a qualified graduate student of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program to complete a 12-month, full-time, paid clinical fellowship. This fellowship will be focused on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with voice, breathing, upper airway and swallowing disorders.

Position Summary:
The clinical fellow will be mentored by a certified speech-language pathologist and work as part of a team in the interdisciplinary laryngology clinic. He or she will be responsible for completing evaluations and developing individualized treatment plans, participating in weekly voice team meetings, presenting an educational lecture to the speech-language pathology department, attending monthly departmental and educational meetings and completing daily documentation and billing through the electronic medical record system.
The clinical fellowship year at the Voice Center will provide the opportunity to gain experience and training in the areas of acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment, stroboscopy, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing studies, modified barium swallow studies, in-clinic swallowing evaluations, and therapy for voice, swallowing and breathing disorders. In addition, opportunities will be provided for observation of laryngeal imaging, assessment and specialized procedures including bronchoscopy, laryngeal EMG and Botox injections with the laryngologists. Candidates should also be prepared to be involved in the assessment and treatment of other adult speech and language disorders (i.e., dysarthria, fluency).
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Interested candidates should have a strong interest and background in the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing and breathing disorders as demonstrated through their graduate coursework and/ or clinical internships. The candidate must have completed their master’s level coursework at an accredited University program in speech-language pathology prior to beginning the position. The candidate must have a strong academic background, be highly motivated, demonstrate initiative and be independent and ready to work in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment. Experience working with transgender or singing voice clients is a plus.
Individuals who have already completed their Clinical Fellowship Year will not be considered.
