Job Description:
- Mission of Position: To assist speech/language impaired students in the educational environment.
- Job Goal: To reduce and eliminate communicative disorders that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.
- Performance Responsibilities: Serve as a resource to staff in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. Provide therapeutic programs to meet individual needs of speech/language impaired children at Southside, Northside, Junior/Senior High and Head Start. Assist and guide teachers in referring suspected speech/language impairments. Provide a through assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, language, and swallowing disorders. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, language, and swallowing disorders. Provide screenings to identify possible speech/language impairments at the preschool, kindergarten and first grade levels. Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists as appropriate. Participate in all appropriate CST and IEP meetings. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff to implement therapy when appropriate. Provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate. Provide in-service and serves as a consultant to teachers and staff on topics concerning speech/language improvement. Keep ongoing records for individual students receiving speech therapy. Supervise speech aides in accordance with the administrative rules of Montana. Complete Medicaid billing for qualified speech/language impaired students. Maintain student files in accordance with OPI policies.
