The University of Wisconsin-Madison & UW Health are pleased to announce openings for our 2021 – 2022 Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship Program. We offer fellowships in our multiple specialty areas: adult voice, adult swallow, pediatric inpatient and outpatient and acute care-inpatient speech, language and swallow. Each specialty has its own unique focus, with the goal of the overall clinical fellowship experience being that of a multi-disciplinary approach to medical care for inpatients and outpatients at a state-of-the art institution.

The UW Clinical Fellowship Program is an intensive 12-month program where clinical education is viewed as a dynamic process.  Clinical fellows participate actively in learning to apply didactic information to clinical practice with patients who have a wide range of disorders.

 

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE  

We are seeking clinical fellows who demonstrate strengths in the following:

  1. Ability to analyze and synthesize information from a broad-based fund of knowledge in medical communication and voice science and disorders
  2. Ability to engage in evidence-based problem solving
  3. Motivation to achieve an advanced level of clinical competence in prevention, screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with voice and swallowing disorders
  4. The ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a multidisciplinary medical setting
  5. Self-evaluation resulting in actively identifying steps to develop new skills and acquire knowledge
  6. Ethical, responsible, and professional conduct

In addition to clinical expectations, fellows will be expected to participate in the following:

  1. Conduction and completion of your own clinical research project
  2. Weekly multi-disciplinary case conference, with regular clinical case presentations
  3. Outreach activities

APPLY  

We are currently accepting applications for multiple positions in our 1. Adult Voice, 2. Adult Swallow, 3. Adult Acute Care and 4. Pediatric Inpatient and Outpatient Specialty Care. Please indicate your area of interest in your submission. Include the following in your application in the following order:

  1. A cover page with your name, specific area of voice or swallow and date of application submission;
  2. A one-page statement (12-point font, double spaced) describing your interest in the position, previous experience in medical speech pathology, goals for your career, any research experience, and the qualities that make you a good candidate for the fellowship;
  3. Current CV/Resume and
  4. Three letters of recommendation with at least one from a clinical supervisor/mentor in the application packet.These can be sent with your completed application or directly from the writer.
