Greetings,
I am LCDR Carla Chase . I am a Speech Language Pathologist. I graduated from Lamar University in 1996 with my Bachelor’s in Communication Disorders and went on to Florida State University for a Master’s in Speech Pathology which I completed in 1999. After my internship at a VA Hospital in Biloxi, MS, I joined the Army Reserves and I worked in hospitals and sub-acute rehab settings in Orlando area. In 2009 I learned about the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps as a career opportunity and joined in 2010. I worked in a military treatment facility treating service members diagnosed with mild-moderate brain injury in my first USPHS assignment. I completed my doctoral studies at Nova Southeastern University in 2017 while working at the Defense and Veteran’s Brain Injury Center. Currently, I am working on policies and communications of outcome measures and quality reporting at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, but will take a new assignment next month at the CDC in Atlanta, GA.
I am reaching out to share with other Speech Language Pathologists/Audiologists that there are great career opportunities in the USPHS Commissioned Corps. Attached please find some documented examples of what therapists can do in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps: Therapists Leading the Way.
Please share this information widely. Feel free to reach out with questions.
Very Respectfully,
Carla
