Clinical Fellow (CF) training positions in Speech Pathology are available at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) for the coming year. The positions involve clinical rotations through both the University Drive and H.J. Heinz divisions of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System as well as participation in a unique intensive residential aphasia treatment program (http://www.pittsburgh.va.gov/PIRATE/). There is a significant emphasis on mentoring during these fellowships and interested individuals can expect to gain experience with and knowledge of the full range of adult medical Speech-Language pathology services.
The University Drive division is a Level 1a (highest complexity) acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient Speech Pathology services while the Heinz division is a skilled nursing facility with acute and sub-acute rehabilitation, and palliative care units. Both sites provide telehealth services. Opportunities to learn or further develop skills in clinical swallowing evaluations, instrumental swallowing evaluations, TEP placement/management, and tracheostomy and ventilator dependent communication and swallowing evaluation/management will be provided. Clinical experiences in diagnosis and treatment of aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication impairments are also an integral part of the CFY.
