The New Mexico VA Health Care System is currently accepting applications for a Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship candidate for 2024-2025

The New Mexico VA Health Care System is pleased to announce a speech-language pathology clinical fellowship (CF) position for the 2024-2025 year. The Clinical Fellowship provides a well-rounded experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults in all areas of medical speech pathology including dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy. Specialty areas in head & neck cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, TBI, trach/vent, AAC, and transgender voice are also offered. Our department serves inpatients, outpatients (in-clinic and telehealth), and rehabilitation residents of the Community Living Center.

Over the course of this year long rotation, the Clinical Fellow can expect to have a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience to include training in swallow evaluations (bedside, fluoroscopic, and endoscopic), endoscopic voice evaluations (flexible and rigid), post laryngectomy voice restoration, language and cognitive therapy, participation in comprehensive rehab teams for ALS, Parkinson’s, and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), as well as assistive technology for augmentative communication. The CF will work with a variety of specialty services and teams via interdisciplinary rounds and collaboration, including: Otolaryngology, General Medicine Hospitalist teams, Nursing, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, SCI, and Primary Care.

Located in the high desert of northern New Mexico, Albuquerque experiences four seasons a year which allows for the enjoyment of one of the most diverse geographical regions in the country year-round. Running along the Rio Grande trail, hiking, mountain and road biking, climbing, boating, and winter sports are all within a 20 minute to 2-hour drive. Albuquerque has a unique and rich culture, southwest cuisine, and thriving local brewery scene. The University and downtown have a variety of shops, restaurants, and monthly activities. The world-renowned Balloon Fiesta is hosted
annually in October.

The position is tentatively scheduled to begin late summer of 2024 and is a full time (Monday-Friday) 12 month position, with a compensation package that includes salary, health benefits, and sick & annual leave.
