A CF position in Speech-Language Pathology is available at the Lexington VA Medical Center. The beautiful city of Lexington houses a 2 division facility with one division located on the University of Kentucky campus and the other approximately 5 miles across town. The Speech Department includes 4 full-time SLPs, 2 part-time SLPs, and an SLPA. We do not rotate SLPs between positions but each SLP provides coverage for other providers as needed. The CF will be expected to work at both divisions and cover various clinics/care units throughout their rotation. This will include both inpatient and outpatient care.

The Speech Department serves acute inpatients, residents of a Community Living Center, and outpatient. We are able to provide treatment via telehealth through multiple modalities. The CF will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies. The CF will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology including evaluation/treatment of: dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy.  They may also gain specialized experience in areas such as: neurogenic communication disorders, AAC, endoscopic procedures (FEES, videostroboscopy), and laryngectomy/TEP care. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology and a desire to grow professionally in a learning-oriented setting.

General Information:

  • This CF position is for one year.
  • This is a temporary appointment funded through a stipend provided by the Office of Academic Affiliations.
  • Applicants with a strong academic background or medical clinical experience in areas such as neurogenic communication disorders, voice disorders, and dysphagia evaluation are preferred.
  • Only US citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Applications are open to students who have graduated within the last 4 years and have not previously completed a clinical fellowship.
  • Virtual interviews for selected applicants will be scheduled in March/April.
