The Longview School District has an opening for SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST 1.0 FTE for the 2017-18 School Year

SUPERVISOR: Director of Special Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Washington State educational staff associate (ESA) certification as a Speech Language Pathologist or Communications Disorder Specialist.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in speech pathology or audiology from a college or university program accredited by ASHA. ASHA certification is a requirement of this position.
- Hold or be willing to obtain Washington State Speech Language Pathologist license.
- Prior experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in a school environment is desirable, but will welcome those who have had a successful practicum experience.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate broad based knowledge of speech and language instruments applicable to preschool and school age students.
- Assess accurately speech and language skills that meet state eligibility standards.
- Develop individual education plan (IEP) goals and objectives as they relate to speech and language needs of the preschool and school age students.
- Provide ongoing assistance to teachers, parents and other professionals implementing speech and language objectives and activities.
- Complete assessments and eligibility documents within required timelines.
- Maintain a system to record evaluative data and continuous measurement of student performance.
- Participate effectively as a multidisciplinary team member with parents, professional peers and district staff to formulate educational plans for students.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding child’s performance and intervention goals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of developmental language approaches.
- Lead collaborative site delivery of social language development.
- Show an awareness of state guidelines for eligibility and services.
- Demonstrate ability in implement a variety of intervention models: pullout, small group, in-class, clinical; home, community, school.
- Collaborate in assessment, program design and implementation of specialized instruction in communication skills using articulation, oral language, written language and reading skill development.
- Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff or district patrons.
- Evidence/demonstration of use of technology to enhance student learning or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- May be required to travel between buildings and occasionally attend workshops and conferences with the region or state.
- Required to work flexible hours and schedule which may include some evenings. Expected to prepare classroom for the start of school and prepare workspace or room for summer cleaning after the last day of school.
- Classroom/office environment which includes frequently walking, occasional lifting, and bending, stooping, kneeling and keyboarding.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract Term: 180 days Salary: Based on the 2016-17 state salary schedule.
Additional compensation based on Longview Education Association Agreement with the Longview School District.
