CF Position – VA, Tuscon, Arizona

There is a challenging CF position available in Tucson at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System.  The Clinical Fellowship provides experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, swallowing disorders/dysphagia and voice disorders.  The Speech Pathology department serves inpatients, outpatients, and rehabilitation residents of the Community Living Center.  Over the course of the rotation,  the Clinical Fellow can expect to have a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience and includes training in performing swallow evaluations (bedside, fluoroscopic, and endoscopic), endoscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration, language and cognitive evaluations and therapy, as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition.   The CF will work professionally with a variety of specialty services and teams, including Nursing, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, and Primary Care.  The rotation will also include work with the Polytrauma clinic and Traumatic Brain Injury team (Tucson VA is a Polytrauma Network site providing Level II inpatient and outpatient services for OEF/OIF veterans), involving special collaboration with Neuropsychiatry and Psychology.

Tucson boasts a truly unique culture and food scene.  Downtown and 4th Avenue have a huge variety of shops, restaurants, and monthly activities.  The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, historic Tucson Rodeo, as well as the All Souls Procession are annual events not to miss.  With 350 sunny days a year, our outdoors are always open.  Summers are hot, but remember, it is a “dry” heat.  Both beautiful Mexican beaches and winter sport resorts are only a 4 hour drive away.

*The position is tentatively scheduled to begin during the Summer to early Fall of 2018 and is a full time, 12 month commitment  (Mon.-Fri. 40 hrs./wk.), with a compensation package including salary, health benefits, sick and annual leave.
