SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System Speech-Language Pathology section is pleased to announce two Clinical Fellowship opportunities for 2024-2025. The goal of the Clinical Fellowship is to provide experience in the Speech-Language Pathology scope of practice along a broad continuum of care. These positions are temporary appointments, not to exceed one year. Applicants must be US citizens and have graduated from a fully accredited Speech-Language Pathology graduate program and be eligible for a Texas Speech-Language Pathology Intern License.

The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, a level 1A – high complexity facility, is the primary training site and will offer the clinical fellow experience in evaluation and treatment of cognitive communication, language, motor speech, swallowing, and voice disorders. Clinical rotations will include outpatient clinic, acute inpatient care and inpatient Polytrauma Rehabilitation. Training will include:

  • Fluoroscopic/Endoscopic swallow evaluations
  • Stroboscopic voice evaluations
  • ALS multidisciplinary clinic
  • Gender affirming voice therapy
  • Evaluation and treatment of patients with head and neck cancer
  • Evaluation and treatment of patients with TBI and disorders of consciousness
  • Evaluation and training for use of assistive technology
  • Palliative care and hospice

Clinical Fellows with South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) will be collaborating with a variety of specialty services to include ENT, PM&R, Neurology, Pulmonary, Oncology, PT, OT, RT, Rec therapy, Nutrition, Chaplain service and many more.
