Chief responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and indirect services to children with developmental delays or disabilities in their natural learning environments.
  • Service area is North King County
  • Provide coaching and consultation for staff, parents and care providers.
  • Participate as a member of the transdisciplinary team including caregivers and professional staff.
  • Serve as a liaison with the medical and educational community on behalf of enrolled children and their parents/caregivers.
  • Demonstrate a caring, nonjudgmental attitude with every family.
  • Assess and evaluate each child’s performance in all areas of development using instruments and a timetable approved by the agency.
  • Participate in the development of each child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Attend or conduct conferences/consultations with caregivers.
  • Attend scheduled clinical and staff meetings and be an active participant in staff related activities.
  • Provide in-service trainings of staff and volunteers as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • MA or MS degree with a valid license in the state of Washington; CFY students will be considered.
  • Able to work at a center, in a family’s home, and in a variety of community settings.
  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance and reliable automobile required.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Physical requirements – able to participate in active floor time including sitting, standing, walking and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Current criminal background check maintained for all employees.
  • COVID vaccination required.
  • Commitment to building and strengthening equity practices.

NATURE OF ORGANIZATION
The University of Washington Inpatient Speech Pathology Department at Montlake is made up of 16+ speech language pathologists (SLPs) who provide excellent and evidenced based patient care in the NICU, inpatient rehab, and acute/ICU setting. The SLPs thrive on collaboration and furthering their education and skills to best meet the communication, swallowing, cognitive, and breathing needs of their patients. They participate in the mission of the University by maximizing the patient’s ability to participate in their care so that personal goals are prioritized during their hospitalization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The SLP Assistant performs a variety of administrative tasks to support the SLPs in their daily work. This work directly supports the SLPs ability to provide safe, effective, and efficient patient care. Tasks: Restock and organize hard copy and electronic therapy and patient education materials Create memory books, communication books, large calendars, and other patient-specific therapy tools Keep inventory, order, and stock supplies Transport equipment to nursing floors and Central Supply Processing Department in support of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow (FEES) program Assist SLP with set up of equipment and supplies before, during, and after FEES Score Sentence Intelligibility Test (SIT)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Reliable, flexible, attentive to detail. Independently motivated and goal oriented. Able to finish tasks in a timely manner. Strong problem-solving skills and inquisitive in nature. Organized, respectful, pleasant. Computer skills: Word, Excel, Office 365 (OneDrive, SharePoint), Boardmaker.

The Speech-Language Pathology Service at Cincinnati VA Medical Center offers one-year Clinical Fellowship opportunities in Speech-Language Pathology. Clinical fellows are full-time, funded employees who have the opportunity to achieve their clinical learning goals, including development of advanced practice skills, while being mentored by experienced clinicians. Fellows work and learn in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings within the Medical Center, and they engage in interprofessional practice with specialty services including Neurology, Otolaryngology, Medicine, Oncology, TBI/Polytrauma, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies. Hands-on clinical teaching and supervision allow Fellows to develop the skills and abilities needed to manage a full-time, complex patient caseload. Fellows also engage in a variety of didactic and academic learning opportunities, including participation in interdisciplinary and community SLP journal clubs, attendance at College of Medicine Grand Rounds, surgical observations, onsite training in flexible endoscopy, and opportunities for postgraduate learning through in-person and virtual trainings and conferences. In addition, Fellows will participate in clinical research and/or quality improvement programs that can train skills necessary for a future career incorporating clinical research.

The Speech Pathology Section serves acute and critical care inpatients, outpatients, and residents of a Community Living Center. Fellows will gain experience and provide services in all general areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation and treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy. They will also gain experience in subspecialty areas of speech language pathology, which may vary according to the specific professional goals and interests of the selected Fellows. Overall, we are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology and a desire to grow and develop professionally in a fast-paced, learning-oriented medical setting.

  • English language proficiency
  • Commitment to 12 months of federal employment at Cincinnati VA Medical Center
  • Graduation from a fully accredited Speech-Language Pathology graduate program (M.A. or M.S.)
  • Eligibility for licensure in speech-language pathology and application for conditional licensure
  • Strong academic performance and interest in neuroscience, neurogenic cognitive/communication disorders, voice, and dysphagia, as evidenced by academic transcripts
  • Interviews will be scheduled with the selection team for top candidates, in person or via videoconference

UW Hospital Assistant Positions with Rehab Service Line at Harborview

Currently we have three open hospital assistant positions within the Rehab Service Line at Harborview. We have both full time and part time positions available currently. These positions don’t require any prior hospital experience or certifications.  The job listing does say ‘legal requirement: Registered Nursing Assistant” but this is a registration with the state that we could walk candidates through.

These positions support the work of the rehab service line and do work supporting the therapy department.  This is the perfect job for someone looking to go to grad school for PT, OT, Speech or P&O.  Lots of observation time is available for employees across the service line.

If you have any upcoming students taking gap years or looking to gain additional experience prior to applying to graduate programs these are great positions.  Positions pay: $3,018 – $4,065 per month
