  • Current beginning salary for a BA level with zero years experience is $61,748 (For a full- year contract).
  • Current beginning salary for a MA level with zero years experience is $74,029 (For a full- year contract).
  • There are 3 to 5 additional days that are paid at the contract hourly rate available, if they are worked.
  • All 2023-2024 teacher base contracts are 183 days. Supplemental calculation based on 15 hours (2 days) for one staff development days and one non-student/data assessment day. (example: 1.0 FTE Beginning teacher at step BA-0 with zero years experience: Certificated Base
  • Salary $61,080 + $668 for supplemental = $61,748). There are 3 additional days that can be earned for Staff Development (not reflected in the above calculation).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for a variety of duties related to the evaluation of students with communication delays/disorders and IEP design and implementation.

Reports to and evaluated by: Director of Special Education

This includes:

  • Administering tests and interpreting results related to educational progress
  • Scheduling and attending meetings with parents and staff as required for evaluations and
  • IEPs
  • Providing therapy for identified students
  • Reporting progress at district directed intervals

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate and provide therapy for students with speech and language disorders
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team (including psychologists, occupational therapists, general education teacher, etc) approach
  • Develop and write reports and IEPs in compliance with state and district guidelines
  • Supervise and train SLPAs and other staff as needed
  • Participate in the professional SLP community
  • Engage in on-going professional development
  • Counsel and guide parents, students and staff regarding speech and language disorders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences
  • Possess or qualify for an Educational Staff Associates credential

About the Position

This position is responsible for providing evaluation and educational support services for children who are delayed or disabled in a manner impacting their development, thereby reducing the impact of the child’s diagnosis or delay on their skills and abilities. The speech language pathologist also provides coaching, consultation, and training services for caregivers of enrolled children, and is an active participant in our transdisciplinary team of therapists, educators, and family resource coordinators

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate each child’s performance in all areas of development using instruments and a timetable approved by the agency.
  • Participate in the development of each child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Provide direct and indirect services to children with developmental delays or disabilities in their natural learning environments.
  • Provide coaching and consultation for staff, parents, and care providers.
  • Attend or conduct conferences/consultations with caregivers.
  • Participate as a member of the transdisciplinary team including caregivers and professional staff.
  • Serve as a liaison with the medical and educational community on behalf of enrolled children and their parents/caregivers.
  • Demonstrate a caring, nonjudgmental attitude with every family.
  • Attend scheduled clinical and staff meetings and be an active participant in staff related activities.
  • Prepare written reports and chart notes as required by Wonderland Child & Family Services.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide in-service trainings of staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • MA or MS degree with a valid license in the state of Washington.
  • Valid driver’s license, current insurance and reliable automobile required.
  • Minimum one year of direct service experience with children and families.
  • Knowledge of parent/caregiver coaching; experience preferred.
  • Able to work at a center, in a family’s home, and in a variety of community settings.
  • Current criminal background check maintained for all employees.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Prefer infant mental health, trauma-informed care, and motivational interviewing training/experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • WA-AIMH endorsement preferred.

Physical Demands/Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in both an office environment and families’ homes. Must be able to participate in active floor time including sitting, standing, walking, and lift up to 50 pounds. When providing virtual supports, this position could be on a screen for up to 8 hours a day.

A CF position in Speech-Language Pathology is available at the Lexington VA Medical Center. The beautiful city of Lexington houses a 2 division facility with one division located on the University of Kentucky campus and the other approximately 5 miles across town. The Speech Department includes 4 full-time SLPs, 2 part-time SLPs, and an SLPA. We do not rotate SLPs between positions but each SLP provides coverage for other providers as needed. The CF will be expected to work at both divisions and cover various clinics/care units throughout their rotation. This will include both inpatient and outpatient care.

The Speech Department serves acute inpatients, residents of a Community Living Center, and outpatient. We are able to provide treatment via telehealth through multiple modalities. The CF will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies. The CF will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology including evaluation/treatment of: dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy.  They may also gain specialized experience in areas such as: neurogenic communication disorders, AAC, endoscopic procedures (FEES, videostroboscopy), and laryngectomy/TEP care. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology and a desire to grow professionally in a learning-oriented setting.

General Information:

  • This CF position is for one year.
  • This is a temporary appointment funded through a stipend provided by the Office of Academic Affiliations.
  • Applicants with a strong academic background or medical clinical experience in areas such as neurogenic communication disorders, voice disorders, and dysphagia evaluation are preferred.
  • Only US citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Applications are open to students who have graduated within the last 4 years and have not previously completed a clinical fellowship.
  • Virtual interviews for selected applicants will be scheduled in March/April.
