The Speech-Language Pathology section at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center is proud to announce a CF position beginning August 2024. This is a full-time position with a compensation package including salary, health benefits (if desired, > 3mos employment), and sick & annual leave (accrues commensurate with time worked). It is a temporary appointment not extending beyond one year.  Citizens of the U.S. are eligible to apply.  

We are located geographically within the Detroit Medical Center, in the heart of midtown, just minutes from professional sporting events at Comerica Park, Ford Field, and Little Caesars Arena, with outdoor spaces such as Campus Martius and Belle Isle, thriving restaurants, theater, museum, and music venues, and the beautiful and newly developed downtown Detroit International Riverfront.  Also, we are just miles away from fresh apple cider, produce, and donuts at one of many local cider mills, and hours from hundreds of miles of beautiful Great Lakes shorelines in three directions. Our international neighbor, Canada, is just a tunnel or bridge crossing away to Windsor. Michigan celebrates all four beautiful seasons, and both the upper and lower peninsulas offer great locations to camp, bike, ski, swim, or hike. 

Our facility offers comprehensive care in acute/intensive, subacute/step-down, medicine, telemetry, surgical, hospice, rehab, and long-term community living care units. The applicant will evaluate and treat adult veteran patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings and across a continuum of care, and interface with Audiology, Medicine, Surgery, Otolaryngology/Head & Neck, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Nutrition, Neurology, Oncology, Dentistry, Spinal Cord Injury, Geriatrics, Women’s Clinics, and Extended Care. Patients are seen in person and virtually via VA Video Connect, in both individual and small group settings.   

The CF applicant can expect skill advancement in all areas of medical speech pathology, with technical skill refinement in fluoroscopic (MBSS) and endoscopic (FEES) swallow evaluations, surface electromyography, augmentative communication, laryngeal videostroboscopy, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration.  Interviews will be conducted via videoconference.

The George E Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Salt Lake City, UT is pleased to announce the availability of one Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship, to begin mid-Summer of 2024. This one-year temporary position will be full-time (Mon-Fri; 40 hours/week) with an approximate salary of $41,206, which includes health and leave benefits. Only US citizens are eligible to apply.

The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System is part of the VA Rocky Mountain Network. Our health care system consists of our main facility located in Salt Lake City and multiple community clinics across Utah, Idaho and Nevada, spanning 125,000 square miles. We provide health care in person and virtually to over 75,000 eligible Veterans across one of the largest geographical areas in VA. The VAMC is a 121 bed facility. We support an active academic affiliation with the University of Utah and many other academic institutions. We provide a wide range of
tertiary services, including a regional heart transplant program operated in conjunction with the University of Utah. We collaborate with multiple disciplines including: emergency care, neurology, oncology, otolaryngology, pulmonary, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, nutrition, mental and behavioral health, geriatrics, caregiver support, homeless Veteran care, LGBTQ+ Veteran care, and more. The clinical fellow can gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech-language pathology, across inpatient, outpatient and specialty clinic settings. Specialized training may be offered with TBI/polytrauma, AAC, ALS, transgender voice, laryngectomy care/TEP, instrumental swallow and voice evaluations and more.

The St. Louis VA Healthcare System is pleased to announce one Clinical Fellowship position for 2024-25 which includes both our John Cochran Division and our Jefferson Barracks Division.   The Clinical Fellow can expect to gain experience and training in the evaluation and treatment of motor speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognitive-communication disorders.  The setting will include acute inpatient care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and teletherapy.   The Clinical Fellow may work in a variety of specialty clinics including Otolaryngology, Movement Disorders Clinic, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Clinic, and Spinal Cord Injury.  Additionally, the Clinical Fellow can expect training in videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluations, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing, video stroboscopy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, and augmentative and alternative communication evaluation and therapy.

GREATER LOS ANGELES VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The Speech Pathology Service at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is now accepting applications for a one-year Clinical Fellowship. VAGLAHS is one of the largest health care facilities within the Department of Veterans Affairs, serving over 84,000 Veterans who reside throughout Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Facilities include our West Los Angeles Medical Center and Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center with over 700 operational beds. We also have nine community-based outpatient clinics and are
affiliated with both UCLA and USC Schools of Medicine.

The Speech Pathology Service consists of ten SLPs and serves acute and critical care inpatients, acute rehab, hospice care, Community Living Center, outpatients, and telehealth. The department has close working relationships with many services including Head & Neck Tumor Board; Parkinson’s Disease, Research, Education, and Clinical Center (PADRECC); Transgender/Gender Health Clinic; ALS Clinic; TBI/Polytrauma Clinic; and rehabilitation therapies; among others. The clinical fellow will gain training and experience in all general areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation and treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy. The clinical fellow will also complete a capstone project related to clinical research and/or a quality improvement program.

CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP YEAR (CFY) IN MEDICAL SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

 

The CW Bill Young/Bay Pines (Florida) VA Healthcare System announces the availability of (1) Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) opportunity.  Recruitment will begin immediately. Applications will be accepted through February 9th, 2024.

Must be a US Citizen and must be fully vaccinated before beginning employment and/or training rotations.

The appointment is for 12 months, 2080 hours, with a planned start date in late summer/early fall 2024.  There is a stipend of $41,206 paid to the selected candidate.

Bay Pines is among the busiest of VA Healthcare Systems nationwide.  The Speech Pathology Section is comprised of 4.5 FTEE and is part of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service.  Veterans are referred from Medicine, Surgery, Geriatrics and Extended Care (Community Living Center), and the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service as well as from throughout the Healthcare System which extends to Ft. Myers and Naples to the south.

The Bay Pines campus is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast in the Tampa Bay area, just northwest of downtown St. Petersburg, south of Clearwater, and west across the Bay from Tampa.  The campus consists of 31+ buildings on 337 acres including in addition to the medical center, a regional office and national cemetery.  Come enjoy a beautiful work campus, and such local attractions as Rays baseball, Sunken Gardens, and the Dali Museum, in a temperate climate filled with year-round opportunities for indoor and outdoor fun.

The fellowship will offer inpatient and outpatient experience with diagnosis and treatment of swallowing, communication, and cognitive disorders, as well as experience with post-laryngectomy and TE prostheses care.
