SLP CF Position VA Portland Healthcare System – Portland, OR

The VA Portland Healthcare System is pleased to announce a one-year Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship (CF) position. Our facility is a Level 1A (highest complexity) facility with an active academic affiliation with Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU). The Speech-Language Pathology service consists of seven SLPs amongst two clinic campuses in Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA.

We provide services along the continuum of care from critical care inpatients, acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, rehabilitation unit, outpatients, hospice and palliative care, and telehealth. The SLP department has close working relationships with many interdisciplinary services including ENT Head & Neck Surgery/Tumor Board, Parkinson’s Disease Education and Clinical Center (PADRECC), ALS Clinic, TBI/Polytrauma Clinic, and rehabilitation therapies, among others.

The clinical fellow will gain training and experience in all general areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation and treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and upper airway disorders. They will also develop skills in instrumental swallowing evaluations of Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), tracheostoma, an TEP management, voice assessment with use of acoustic voice analysis systems, and fiberoptic laryngoscopy and stroboscopy.

Although there is some overlap in training, our CF consists of four, 3-month rotations, each of the first three rotations provides a primary area of emphasis. Not listed in any specific order. See attached PDF for more information. PortlandVACF

Voice Research Specialist/Speech-Language Pathologist – Iowa City, Iowa

The Voice Biomechanics and Acoustics Lab led by Dr. Eric Hunter, affiliated with the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic and housed in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa, is seeking a full-time, research-focused speech-language pathologist. The ideal candidate will have experience in voice disorders, as well as upper airway and swallowing disorders. This position is currently planned to be 100% research-focused, but there may be opportunities for teaching and direct clinical service based on the candidate’s strengths.

This is a specified term position for one year with the possibility of extension based on grant funding and research needs.

  • Serve as the primary liaison, facilitating communication among the voice research team.
  • Collaborate to develop and adhere to project milestones for research initiatives.
  • Administer voice and speech research protocols to participants.
  • Accurately record, consolidate, and disseminate test results.

Education Required

  • Master’s degree in speech pathology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Speech-Language Pathologist with Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), or plan for obtaining CCC-SLP in the very near future (e.g. a few months or a CF).
  • Some clinical and/or research experience in diagnosing and treating voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders in adult populations.
  • Proven capability for problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Ability to assist with research recruitment to expand clinical awareness and support for populations with voice disorders (e.g., hyperfunction, muscle tension, nodules, fatigue).
  • Exceptional professional communication skills in working with the public for research participant recruitment and outreach.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians.
  • Experience in scientific writing (e.g. presentations, thesis/capstone, peer-reviewed papers).
  • Experience with voice assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related software.
  • Must have flexible schedule. To accommodate participants’ schedules, the research assistant must have weekend and evening availability (this time is scheduled in advance with the research assistant’s input and stays relatively consistent throughout the study).
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in both clinical and research environments.
  • Experience in human subject research, clinical research coordination and recruitment, and IRB application preparation and management.
  • Knowledge and experience with occupational or professional voice users (i.e., individuals who use their voice as a tool of their trade such as teachers, broadcasters, call center workers, singers).
  • Knowledge and proficiency in statistical design and analysis.
  • Strive to promote continual process and quality improvement.
  • Exceptional professional communication skills in working with the public for research participant recruitment and outreach.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians.
  • Bilingual skills (any language).

Education – Experience and Training for Position

Autism Center CF Position – Seattle & Tacoma

The Autism Center’s Seattle and Tacoma Satellite Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a full time Speech and Language Pathologist – Clinical Fellow (SLP-CF)/Continuing Education Specialist 1.

This position is for a period of 9 -12 months. This individual will work amongst a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, board certified behavior analysts, behavior technicians, occupational therapists, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows primarily at our Seattle clinic. However, we also have a clinic in Tacoma and some work will be there. This CF position work schedule would be 1 day in Tacoma, 4 days in Seattle. The ideal CF will be willing to travel between Tacoma and Seattle clinic locations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct clinical services and patient care activities (approximately 90% of workload):

  • Provide speech/language/communication evaluations to children with ASD in order to identify target goals and intervention strategies using a variety of standardized and non-standardized methods. (10%)
  • Provide speech/language/communication intervention to children with ASD including regularly assessing child’s speech/language/communication progress and modify goals as needed. (60%)
    • Provide services in individual and group settings.
    •  Work with clients ranging in age from infants to adults, with the majority of services provided to preschool and school-age children.
    • Feel comfortable administering customized treatment to children with a range of language skills and behavioral presentations.
    • Develop treatment programs with the cooperation of UW and community practitioners and educators.
    •   Collaborate with other clinical team members in assessment and intervention.
    •  Provide consultation to families, community providers, and UWAC clinicians regarding a range of communication issues in the home and school settings to develop continuity of care.
    •  Involve client’s parents and/or families in treatment program.
  • Complete initial client evaluation reports, treatment plans, progress reports, referral letters, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. (20%)
    •  Keep appropriate records of services provided.
  • Administrative duties (approximately 10% of workload)
    •  Coordinate with the billing office regarding services
    • Coordinate with licensed/supervising SLP
    •  Coordinate with administration and support staff to meet billable expectations

CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP IN ACUTE CARE – Winter 2025

UR Medicine – Strong Memorial Hospital is a leading academic healthcare institution located in Rochester, NY between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region. Strong Memorial Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center accommodating more than 800 acute care beds and growing. The acute care team is seeking a full time, twelve-month clinical fellow to begin January 2025. Our clinical fellowship is structured to provide experience at all levels of acute care in a wide variety of specialty areas including but not limited to: neurology, cardiology, transplant, trauma, oncology, surgical, and hospital medicine. Our goal is to provide new clinicians with a strong foundation of experience and skills to become a well-rounded medical speech-language pathologist. The clinical fellow will become proficient in the completion of Modified Barium Swallow Studies and participate in FEES.

Job Description:

Full time, 40 hours Speech Pathology

January 2025 to December 2025

8AM – 4:30PM; Monday through Friday January- June, then transition to Sunday- Thursday July-December. Some holiday coverage.

Position Summary:

The Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellow (CF) will be mentored under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients across the continuum of scope including swallowing, speech, language, cognition, voice and alternative means of communication across all hospital units.

Minimum Requirements:

· Completion of M.A. or M.S. degree in an accredited speech-language pathology program

· Previous clinical experience providing direct patient care in a medical setting and prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
