The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center is excited to announce a 12-month, full-time, paid clinical fellowship in speech language pathology intended to develop the skills and clinical experience necessary to achieve competency in the evaluation and evidence-based treatment of adults with voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders. The clinical experience will include multidisciplinary laryngology clinic, multidisciplinary head and neck surgery clinic, and independent outpatient and inpatient sessions under the clinical and academic mentorship of Otolaryngology faculty and staff. The clinical fellow will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of 9 speech-language pathologists, 4 laryngologists, 3 head and neck surgeons, and laryngology and head and neck fellows.

Upon completion of the fellowship, the clinical fellow will demonstrate proficiency evaluating and treating a variety of complex patient populations including functional dysphonia, neurologic voice disorders, paradoxical vocal fold motion disorder, cough/laryngeal hypersensitivity, benign vocal fold lesions, head and neck cancer rehabilitation, and alaryngeal voice restoration. Additional training opportunities include acoustic voice assessment, rigid and flexible laryngeal videostroboscopy, clinical swallowing evaluations, videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). In addition to clinical experience, this position offers dedicated academic time to complete a research project within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. It is anticipated that the clinical fellow will submit at least one abstract to a national meeting for oral or poster presentation by the end of their fellowship year. The clinical fellow will also be expected to participate in our interprofessional monthly clinical case conference for faculty, fellows and residents, and participate in resident didactics as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have graduated from an accredited Master’s program in speech language pathology. The candidate must have strong clinical experience in the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders through their graduate program experience. The candidate must demonstrate a strong academic background and transcript, as well as solid recommendations of their clinical skill in the areas of voice and swallowing. The candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation. The candidate should be eligible for State of Washington interim licensure in speech language pathology.

The Atlanta VA Health Care System is seeking candidates for its 2022-2023 Speech Pathology Clinical Fellowship.

The Atlanta VA Health Care System is compromised of the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinics, a domiciliary, and a Community Living Center. The Medical Center is comprised of approximately 300 hospital beds. The Trinka Davis Veterans Village is comprised of 42 Community Living Center beds. Annually, more than 130,000 veterans receive health care at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The CF will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of veterans with swallowing, speech and language, cognitive, and voice disorders. The use of virtual care will also be emphasized. The CF may also gain specialized experience in artificial airways, neurogenic communication disorders, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, laryngectomy care, and COVID-19 recovery. We are seeking candidates with experience and a strong interest in medical speech pathology, as well as a desire to grow professionally in a complex and learning-oriented medical setting.

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System Clinical Fellowships provide experience medical speech pathology. Outcomes and evidence based practice is emphasized. The Clinical Fellow may have opportunity for specialized training in endoscopy, post laryngectomy voice restoration, and assistive technology.

The Clinical Fellow may work closely with a variety of specialty services and teams, including Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Primary Care, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Care Teams, Spinal Cord Injury and
Disease Unit, and the Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Program. The Clinical Fellowship is divided into 3-4 separate rotations, located at both the Seattle and American Lake Divisions.
The Seattle division offers training in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and spinal cord injury units, a community living center, and specialty outpatient clinics. The American Lake division (in Lakewood, Washington) offers training in outpatient clinics, the community living center, and specialty teams (e.g. ALS, Polytrauma, Stroke). Our staff Speech Pathologist are devoted to our training/mentoring program and clinical fellows can expect to work closely with their

The Mountain Home VAMC clinical fellowship provides experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and voice disorders.
