SLP Position in the Helena Public Schools (MT)

The Helena Public Schools are accepting applications for a Speech-Language Pathologist.  They offer competitive pay, a comprehensive benefit package, generous sick and personal leave, and professional development opportunities with tuition reimbursement available.  An additional $2,000 per year stipend is available for CCC certification.

Position requires a Montana license at the time of employment. Entry level salary range is $41,697 + per year depending upon education level and applicable experience. SLP Positions at Miles City Unifies School District #1 (MT)

The Unified School District of Miles City Montana is currently seeking applications for an SLP candidate for the coming 2019-20 school year and beyond. District enrollment consists of approximately 1500 students from Pre-K to 12th grade. Starting salary for this full time position begins at $52,000 DOE. Successful applicants must pass a background check and hold appropriate certification or the ability to obtain appropriate certification. The district will provide appropriate supervision for applicants needing to obtain the CCC endorsement. School year starts August 19 th , 2019.

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school of speech language pathology.
  • Have an ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence or ability to obtain.
  • Have a current license or be qualified for license as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing high quality direct speech-language therapy services to students according to students’ IEPs/504 plans.
  • Conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns in areas of speech & communication skills (articulation, fluency, voice expressive, etc.)
  • Developing treatment plans (IEPs/504 plans), interventions and material for the purpose of minimizing the adverse impact of communication disorders.
  • Ensuring evaluations, treatment plans and service delivery are aligned with school, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Assisting and guiding teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders.
  • Consulting with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Conducts site visits at multiple work sites for the purpose of providing therapy and assistance as required.
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and individuals for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services.
  • Oversees assigned paraprofessionals for the purpose of providing guidance and ensuring focus on students’ outcomes, quality.
  • Documenting all aspects of work with students according to school and state guidelines.
  • Communicating and coordinating with Director of Student Support Services to ensure school mission, philosophy, and procedures are embraced.
  • Designing and conducting staff professional development as needed
  • Designing and conducting training for parents and families as needed
  • Maintaining an inventory of materials, assessments, and supplies.
  • Maintaining appropriate, confidential, records and provide timely reports.
  • Keeping abreast of best practices in speech and language therapy and language development.
  • Adhering to all district health and safety polices
  • Engaging parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.
  • Contributing productively to the school as a whole.
  • Attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment Physical demands require some lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and or crawling and fine finger dexterity. Generally the job is a combination of sitting, walking and standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness. There is also travel (driving) between buildings in the district. Salary & Benefits Salary is based on educational level, certification and years of experience. Employees will be contracted yearly. Health Insurance is provided and cost to employee is dependent of plan choice.

Student Assistant Positions at the Othello-UW Commons

The Othello-UW Commons is an approximately 2,200 square foot teaching, learning, and event/gathering space under lease by the UW in a new multi-use complex located in Southeast
Seattle adjacent to the Othello light rail station. Collaborators in the Othello-UW Commons will
seek to build upon and extend enduring community partnerships and catalyze new, mutually
reinforcing partnerships in Southeast Seattle for years to come. Undergraduate Academic
Affairs, a unit which shapes, advances and stewards a world-class undergraduate academic
experience for students at the UW, will serve as the administrative home for this work and
position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Othello-UW Commons seeks two hourly student assistants (undergraduate or graduate). Students must maintain, clean, and organize meeting and classroom spaces in a new learning, teaching, and meeting venue. Students will also collaborate with full time staff to provide excellent customer service, act as informed representatives of the space, and be the point of contact for all users. The students must be willing to work evenings (between approximately 5-10pm, Monday through Thursday) and occasionally on the weekend. Each student may be asked to staff the space alone. While a fall start date is acceptable, ideal candidates will be able to start in mid-to-late June 2019.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support the day to day operations of the
Othello UW Commons including but not limited to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the facility, taking lead from the Manager of the Othello-UW Commons as well the Administrative Assistant
  • Open and close the classrooms and offices
  • Communicate with the property management to ensure the security of the facility
  • Maintain daily log
  • Setup/reset the rooms before and after classes and programs
  • Ensure that guests adhere to policies and procedures for using wifi and audiovisual
    equipment
  • Notify Manager and/or Administrative Assistant of any maintenance needs
  • Work directly with Manager and Administrative Assistant to resolve general building,
    custodial, and common area issues
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet minimum enrollment requirements for UW undergraduate or graduate students
  • Excellent customer service skills manifested in an ability to interact politely and
    respectfully with space users and visitors, including community members, UW staff,
    students, and faculty
  • Reliability, timeliness, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to balance shifting priorities, problem solve, and communicate well with
    supervisor
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to retain and convey information about our principles and goals, and about past,
    current, and upcoming events
  • Comfort with, and aptitude in, working AV equipment
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to check work for accuracy
  • Familiarity with SE Seattle communities is desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Comfortable working with a diverse population in groups and individually
  • Ability to commit to approximately 12-14 hours per week during the academic year, with
    a possibility of similar hours extending through summer
  • Willingness to work evening hours (between 5-10pm) and occasional weekend hours
  • Ability to lift/move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for classroom/event setup and tear down

JOB HOURS AND PAY RATE:

  • Approximately 12-14 hours/week M-Th, $16/hour
  • Occasionally work 5-8 hours Friday through Sunday

Work hours will be scheduled anytime between the hours of 5pm and 10pm, Monday through
Thursday. Candidates must be able to commit to the scheduled hours and willing and able to take-on occasional weekend hours (Friday-Sunday). Ideal candidates will be able to work through the current academic year, with the possibility of continuing through summer. Work study students are encouraged to apply.

UW Aphasia Lab Opportunities

The Aphasia Research Lab at the University of Washington conducts research to better understand the complex processing of language and its breakdown in individuals with aphasia.

In particular, they study:

  1. The theoretical nature of word retrieval deficits in aphasia.
  2. Rehabilitation of aphasia.
  3. The influence of mental lexicon structure on treatment generalization.
  4. The psycholinguistic principles of stimuli used in treatment and/or standardized assessments.

SLP Positions in Bethel School District

The Bethel School district (near Port Orchard) has several potential job openings for SLPS. They are opening up another position next year and have several other possible job opportunities.

Many of their SLPs have 2 buildings, but a few only have one building because there are high needs programs housed there. They aim to keep the caseload around 45-50, however they are a growing rapidly district and it is difficult to keep up with the demand at times as large numbers of students move in each year.
