Assistant Professor of Communication (Speech, Language, and Hearing Science) Position (Rhode Island College)

The Department of Communication at Rhode Island College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Fall 2019 to teach and develop courses in the Speech, Language, and Hearing Science (SLHS) concentration. Final appointment is subject to available funding.

The Department of Communication serves approximately 350 majors in Media Communication, Public and Professional Communication, PR/Ad, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles

SLP Position in Selah School District No. 119 (Selah, WA)

The Selah School District is a medium sized district in central Washington looking for a full-time SLP for next year.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
The Speech/Language Pathologist shall be responsible for providing comprehensive
speech, language and hearing services for students on a referral and remedial basis.
Provide assessments, direct therapy and consultation, including development of IEP’s
and participating as a member of the MDT.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  1. Organize and conduct a remedial program for hearing and communication
    disordered students with a range of ages and handicapping conditions.
  2. Formulate with teachers the short and long term goals to meet individual student
    needs in the classroom to be written on the student’s IEP.
  3. Consult with teachers regarding students referred, scheduling and follow-up
    procedures.
  4. Maintain current data on students receiving therapy.
  5. Provide current speech and language evaluations for students.
  6. Provide staff and/or parents in-service consultation regarding implementation of
    current communication processes, and normal speech and language development.
  7. Consult with physicians and other agencies of the community regarding referrals and
    mutual exchange of information. Utilize and consult with resource agencies within
    and outside the community for program facilitation.
  8. Assist in curriculum evaluation as it relates to speech and language development
    and hearing conservation.
  9. Continue up-dating professional qualifications with current research existing in the
    field to meet the needs of the population.

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL PREPARATION, OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Washington State Certification as a Speech and Language Pathology. Master’s Degree
in Speech and Language.

TRAINING PERIOD:
Provisional employee, as per RCW 28A.405.220, during the first two years of
employment by the District as a teacher, or during the first year of employment with the
District as a teacher if the employee has successfully completed two years of
employment in another school district in the State of Washington.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Washington
State law, Board Policy and negotiated agreement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INVOLVE:

CFY at William S. Middleton VA Hospital (Madison, WI)

A CFY position in speech-language pathology is available through the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the William S. Middleton Veterans Affairs Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.  This will be a blended fellowship training experience incorporating training through the Speech Pathology section and the GRECC.

The Speech Pathology Section serves inpatients, outpatients, and residents of a Community Living Center. CFs will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Med/Surg, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies.  All CFs will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, and voice disorders.  They will also gain specialized experience in cognitive rehabilitation for veterans with mTBI, neurogenic communication disorders, endoscopic procedures (FEES and videostroboscopy), head and neck cancer, and laryngectomy care. CFs will also participate in several weekly Geriatric based interdisciplinary clinics. Trainees will be integrated directly into these interdisciplinary geriatrics teams and through administration of standardized screening tools, will identify those Veterans who would benefit from additional dysphagia, speech/language, or cognitive intervention from the Speech Pathology service.  

They are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, geriatrics, and dysphagia research, as well as a desire to grow professionally in a fast-paced, learning-oriented medical setting.

  • These are temporary appointments without potential to become permanent positions
  • Applicants with a strong academic background and/or clinical experience in neuroscience, neurogenic cognitive/ communication disorders, voice, and dysphagia are preferred.

Volunteer Opportunity at Seattle Children’s Hospital

Seattle Children’s Hospital is looking for volunteers for their annual DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) St. Patrick’s Day Carnival on 03/16! They’ve had UW students volunteer every year and would welcome the opportunity again this year.

The carnival consists of fun carnival games, face-painting, entertainment, sno-cones, and a light lunch for Deaf/hard of hearing children of all ages and their families. This free event is Saturday, March 16th from 11am – 2 pm in the Seattle Children’s Hospital Sound Cafe Dining Room.
