SLP Position at Sky Bridge Therapies (Lakewood, WA)

Sky Bridge Therapies is seeking a Pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist to join their team!

Sky Bridge Therapies is an independent pediatric speech, occupational and feeding therapy clinic in Lakewood, Washington. This facility is therapist and parent owned to provide a unique perspective and approach to therapy for the child and family. Their interdisciplinary approach provides occupational and speech therapy services that can be combined in one session or in back-to-back sessions making therapy more effective and accessible to families.

Each child is evaluated and provided an individualized treatment plan with a play based approach tailored to their needs. The Clinic Director/Head SLP is a certified SOS Feeding Specialist who works with an Occupational Therapist to develop weekly feeding plans and goals for all abilities each week. Their specially designed facility provides a fun, exciting environment that will keep patients motivated in working toward his or her goals.

Sky Bridge Therapies is a 4,400 square foot clinic equipped with a dedicated gym complete with a rock climbing wall, a lycra room, a scooterboard room, a dedicated feeding room, as well as therapy rooms suited for older children and younger children – there is something for everyone! Speech therapists use gyms and individual therapy rooms to help children meet their speech and language goals. Sky Bridge is also launching a teletherapy speech program to assist families who live in remote locations or who have a need for more than one session per week to obtain the treatment their child needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and prepare a plan of care
  • Monitor and assess patient care plans and programs
  • Draft and sign off on SOAP notes for sessions in a timely manner
  • Observe SLPA sessions and mentoring
  • Work in a collaborative environment with occupational therapists
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment

Qualifications:

  • Speech Therapist certified and licensed to work in Washington State
  • Previous experience working with children with special needs
  • Ability to build rapport with children and communicate with parents effectively and compassionately
  • Passion to help and motivate others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to observe speech therapy assistants and provide feedback and treatment recommendations for patients
  • Ability to work well in an interdisciplinary approach with occupational therapists in co-treatment sessions
  • Ability to teach new approaches and concepts to occupational and speech therapists.
  • Ability to review and sign off on notes in a timely manner
  • Ability to complete reports and notes in an EMR system.

Student Positions at the Odegaard Writing & Research Center (OWRC)

The Odegaard Writing & Research Center (OWRC) is now hiring for multiple hourly student positions for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The OWRC is an interdisciplinary writing and research center that aims to support UW students, staff, and faculty on their diverse writing and research projects through one-to-one tutoring sessions, group tutoring sessions, workshops, and other programs.

OWRC tutors are undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of academic fields, and the OWRC provides a rich learning environment for writers and tutors alike. The OWRC consistently hears from tutors that their work here is challenging and transformative.

Their Student Program Assistant is an undergraduate or graduate student from any academic field, who assists with the day-to-day operations of the OWRC, including office and programmatic support. While this is not a peer writing tutoring position, they are still seeking applicants who demonstrate reflection, metacognition, and empathetic listening.

Students can learn more about working in the OWRC by attending information sessions. The Center also encourages applicants to to bring their materials to the OWRC and discuss them with our current tutors—just make an appointment and come by.

SLP Position at the Brooke Army Medical Center (Fort Sam Houston, TX)

Full-time SLP position

Salary: $73,375 – $95,388 / year

The Brooke Army Medical Center is looking for a full time Speech Pathologist to work within their Traumatic Brain Injury clinic. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year experience working in an inpatient/outpatient rehab clinic and have a patient population that includes traumatic brain injury and stroke rehabilitation.

The job consists of cognitive rehabilitation, memory deficient patients, attention deficient patients, patients who are having difficulty with executive functions and processing times.

The speech-language pathologists must be able to assess, diagnose, treat, and help prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders. They will be working in conjunction with physicians, social workers, psychologists, and other therapists. Best qualified candidates have experience in an inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation clinic setting; work with TBI or Stroke patients, and/or have experience in a polytrauma clinic.

The speech-language pathologist will be expected to use qualitative and quantitative assessment methods, including standardized tests and special instruments, to analyze and diagnose the nature and extent of speech, language, and swallowing impairments. They will also be required to develop an individualized plan of care, tailored to each Soldier’s needs.

The primary responsibility will be to help Soldiers develop, or recover, reliable communication and swallowing skills so they can fulfill their educational, vocational, and social roles. The SLP should initiate necessary therapeutic measures, conferring with physicians when indicated; consult with physician at appropriate intervals; ensure that the patient and significant others understand the treatment plan; advise patients and family of home program procedures to ensure maximal therapeutic gain and carry-over; and instruct hospital staff and others who may be involved in the plan of patient care.

The SLP will maintain appropriate records of patients under treatment and provide oral and written progress reports to referring physicians. They will provide instruction on the use and maintenance of prosthetic and therapeutic devices; fit and adjust various speech appliances; and advise patient or significant other on the care of therapeutic equipment.

The SLP will be expected to gain the confidence and cooperation of patients and their families and strive to motivate patients to achieve their fullest potential. They will provide professional advice or service to the requesting agency or physician and provide information to patients regarding both private and public therapy programs available in the community.

The SLP will also be expected to perform duties related to clinic administration: they will receive patients; obtain medical records and return the records to the Outpatient Records Section; complete forms for patient accountability and third party billing; transcribe and post pertinent data to the patient record; and schedule return appointments. Securing office supplies and ordering professional materials for patient care are also part of their responsibilities.

The SLP will perform other duties as assigned.

Speech Pathology CFY, George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center (Salt Lake City, UT)

The George E Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT is pleased to announce the availability of one Clinical Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology, to begin late Summer or early Fall of 2019.  This one-year position will be full-time (40 hours/week) with an approximate salary of $46,845 + benefits.

The SLC VAMC is located on a 70 acre campus situated at the foot of the rugged Wasatch Mountains overlooking the city below.  The area offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities including hiking, biking, and world class skiing & cultural venues including concerts, theatre, and dining opportunities.

The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 121 – bed tertiary care facility serving Veterans residing within a 25,000 square mile area within VISN 19. It is closely affiliated with the University of Utah School of Medicine. SLC VAMC offers traditional and specialty care services including pathology, radiology, neurology, nuclear medicine and psychiatry.  We provide Telehealth services to Veterans living in rural settings and are a Polytrauma Clinic Support Team (Level III) providing services for OEF/OIF Veterans. Our Speech-Language Pathology Section maintains close interaction with a variety of  teams  including Radiology, Geriatrics, Otolaryngology, Nutrition, Prosthetics & Sensory Aids, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

The Clinical Fellow will engage in a professionally challenging year gaining experience in evaluation and treatment of adults with dysphagia (including fluoroscopy & FEES), cognitive communication impairments,  aphasia, dysarthria and voice disorders including special populations (i.e. H&N Cancer and Transgender).  Additionally, there will be an opportunity to work with the Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech Research Lab headed by Dr. Julie Wambaugh.

The Data Analysis Intern will have the opportunity to work alongside tutors and staff to analyze usage data, and to compile findings into a board report for campus stakeholders. This paid internship experience is made possible by the UW Career & Internship Center’s Campus Internship Development Fund.
