Assistant Professor, Speech-Language Pathology (University of Louisiana at Lafayette)

The Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank to begin August 1, 2019.  Preferred areas of research and teaching emphasis include: speech disorders including speech sound disorders and/or fluency; speech science; AAC; voice science and disorders; and dysphagia. Responsibilities include teaching in the undergraduate and master’s programs with the potential for doctoral level teaching. Applicants should have a defined research agenda with evidence of scholarly activity including research presentations, publications and/or grants.  Successful candidates are expected to be willing to serve as a mentor to students, work with colleagues to assess and improve curricula, and be committed to working effectively with diverse student populations. Active engagement in service to the department, college, university and profession is also expected. The Department of Communicative Disorders is housed within the College of Liberal Arts and offers an undergraduate degree, a MS in Speech Language Pathology and a PhD in Applied Language and Speech Sciences.  The BA program currently has approximately 240 students, the MS program has 68 students and the PhD program typically has between 20 -25 students. DUTIES: Chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology serves on a 12- month assignment with duties including, but not limited to:

  • Recruitment of faculty;
  • Faculty and staff supervision including performance evaluation;
  • Faculty and student mentoring;
  • Promote scholarly and creative research, teaching excellence, and campus and professional service;
  • Provide leadership and advocacy for the Department’s educational and research mission;
  • Develop curriculum including, implementation and evaluation;
  • Course scheduling;
  • Serve as a resource/budget manager for the department;
  • Serve as the Program Director, with administrative oversight of the Department’s national accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology
  • Initiate grant writing and development projects that promote the Department’s mission and vision;
  • Participate and develop community relations including local agencies appropriate to the department discipline;
  • Promote the undergraduate and graduate programs;
  • Normally teach 6 units (2 courses) per semester of undergraduate and/or graduate and/or clinic courses in his/her area of expertise and experience.
  • Supervise graduate students in clinical practice and directed research

Three Clinical Fellow (CF) training positions in Speech Pathology are available at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). The positions involve clinical rotations through both the University Drive and H.J. Heinz divisions of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System as well as participation in a unique intensive residential aphasia treatment program (http://www.pittsburgh.va.gov/PIRATE/).   There is a significant emphasis on mentoring during these fellowships and interested individuals can expect to gain experience with and knowledge of the full range of adult medical speech-language pathology services.

The University Drive division is a Level 1a (highest complexity) acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient Speech Pathology services while the Heinz division is a skilled nursing facility with acute and sub-acute rehabilitation, and palliative care units. Opportunities to learn or further develop skills in clinical swallowing evaluations, instrumental swallowing evaluations (including MBS and FEES), TEP placement/management, and tracheostomy and ventilator dependent communication and swallowing evaluation/management will be provided. Clinical experiences in diagnosis and treatment of aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication impairments are also an integral part of the CFY.

CFYs: VA Puget Sound Health Care System

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System Clinical Fellowships provide experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, swallowing disorders/dysphagia and voice disorders.  The Clinical Fellow will have opportunity for training in performing fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition.   The Clinical Fellow works closely with a variety of specialty services and teams, including Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Primary Care, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Care Teams, Spinal Cord Injury and Disease Unit, and the Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Program. 

The yearlong Clinical Fellowships are divided into 4 separate rotations, located at both the Seattle and American Lake Division. The Seattle division includes experiences in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and spinal cord injury units, a community living center, and specialty outpatient clinics (ALS, Head and Neck, Otolaryngology). The American Lake division (in Lakewood, Washington) focuses on experiences in general outpatient, the community living center, and the Polytrauma clinic and team (VA Puget Sound provides Polytrauma Care (Level II) services for OEF/OIF veterans). Outcomes/Evidence based practice for treatment across communicative, cognitive and swallowing disorders is emphasized.

Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialties, P.C. in Lincoln, NE is seeking an audiology extern for the 2019-2020 academic year. ENT Specialties is a busy practice of 3 Audiologists, 7 ENT physicians, and 2 Physician’s Assistants; providing an excellent well-rounded externship experience.

We provide a full scope of audiologic and rehabilitation services to children and adults including, comprehensive basic audiometry and immittance, OAE, ABR, hearing aid and bone-anchored device dispensing. Externs are allowed to take part in fitting and following-up with hearing aid patients independently. Vestibular experience can be coordinated with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Vestibular Lab.

The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is happy to announce the availability of a full-time, one year Clinical Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology, to begin summer or early fall of 2019.

At PVAHCS, we serve inpatients, outpatients, and residents of the Community Living Center. We deliver services both in person and via telehealth. You will learn to evaluate and treat adults with cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, and dysphonia. You will also gain experience with fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. Patients are seen along the continuum of care, including acute/intensive, outpatient, and long-term care. 2019-2020 Clinical Fellowship in Medical Speech-Language Pathology

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System Speech-Language Pathology section is pleased to announce one Clinical Fellowship opportunity. The goal of the Clinical Fellowship is to provide experience in the speech-language pathology scope of practice along a broad continuum of care. This position is a temporary appointment not to exceed one year.

The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, a level 1A – high complexity facility,  is the primary training site and will offer the clinical fellow experience in evaluation and treatment of cognitive communication, language, motor speech, swallowing, and voice disorders.  Training will include:

  • Fluoroscopic swallow evaluations
  • Endoscopic swallow evaluations
  • Stroboscopic voice evaluations
  • Post-laryngectomy voice restoration
  • ALS multidisciplinary clinic
  • Transgender voice therapy
  • Head and neck cancer clinic

Secondary training sites will be within the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center and the Community Living Center. The clinical fellow can expect to gain experience in:

  • Rehabilitation of patients with injuries to multiple systems (polytrauma)
  • Evaluation and treatment of emerging consciousness patients
  • Evaluation and training in use of assistive technology
  • Palliative care
  • Geriatrics

The clinical fellow will also be provided with a shorter, 2 week rotation at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center.  Here, the clinical fellow can expect to gain experience in:

  • Pediatric Swallow Disorders to include Fluoroscopic Swallow Evaluation
  • Interdisciplinary Infant-Toddler Clinic and Feeding Team

San Antonio is a large city with a “big, small town” feel to it.  Housing and cost of living expenses are very affordable, and the school systems are excellent.  San Antonio is home of the Alamo, the River Walk, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and the 5-time NBA Champions, the San Antonio Spurs!  The city is located two hours away from the beach and only one hour away from Austin—the live music capitol of the world!

Quillen VAMC clinical fellowship provides experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and voice disorders.  The clinical fellow can expect training in performing fluoroscopic swallow evaluations, stroboscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration, clinical video telehealth, as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition.   The clinical fellow works closely with a variety of specialty services and teams including gastroenterology, radiology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation medicine, nutrition, pulmonology, primary care, and the traumatic brain Injury/polytrauma program.

We are currently accepting applications for a clinical fellow at Mountain Home, Tennessee with experience in the hospital, outpatient clinic, and Community Living Center (CLC).  The hospital setting includes experiences in acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and clinical video telehealth. The CLC provides short-term rehab, respite, hospice/palliative care,  and long-term care.  Outcomes/Evidence based practice for treatment across communicative, cognitive, and swallowing disorders is emphasized.
