Speech Language Pathologist Job Description

189 day teaching contract, 134 preschool instructional days, and 176.5 instructional days for other school settings.

This individual should have or be able obtain Montana Licensure to practice as a speech language pathologist.  Familiarity with IDEA Part C and B is necessary. The individual must function as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary team during the evaluation/eligibility and IEP processes. Excellent written and spoken communication skills are necessary in order to communicate with multiple agencies and representatives of organizations during eligibility, placement, and consultation.  The position requires the ability to design and contribute to professional development for paraprofessionals and teachers, and support parents and young children in the process of entering a school based program. The individual must also possess polished interpersonal skills, engage in sound therapeutic practices, and work to create meaningful integrated language based learning in school settings

Experience working with young children with developmental delays is important.  The position requires the individual to be able to work in a fast paced environment and differentiate learning experiences that address individual needs, while working to assist children in meeting standards consistent with Early Childhood Outcomes.    In addition to early childhood settings, additional sites and cases may be assigned. Clinical Fellowship supervision is available for recent graduates of a recognized speech/language graduate level program.

The Northern California Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program is a graduate and post-graduate level, interdisciplinary leadership and service training program federally funded through HRSA’s Maternal Child Health Bureau. The purpose of the LEND program is to provide interdisciplinary and leadership training to clinicians, families, self-advocates, and community leaders involved with developmental disabilities. By training future visionary leaders, the LEND will improve the health, developmental, and behavioral outcomes of infants, children, and youth with autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disorders (ASD/DD) and assist their families within highly diverse and dispersed, low income and low resource regions of northern CA.

The LEND will develop visionary leaders in communities who are:

• Experts in their disciplines and in interdisciplinary knowledge of ASD/DD
• Designers of new models of care provision
• Committed to high quality, evidence-based services
• Communicate well with families and providers from a wide range of cultural and economic backgrounds
• Committed to advocacy and leadership in their communities
• Providers of culturally competent, family-centered care

The LEND program provides trainees with multiple learning experiences, including empirically supported clinical care and leadership within communities to adopt evidence-based practices for improving services.

Resources and faculty at the MIND Institute and affiliated programs at California State University of Sacramento (CSUS) provide LEND training. Training will occur in clinical settings at the MIND Institute and CSUS, as well as in other clinical settings and community settings.

The New Mexico VA Health Care System is pleased to announce a speech-language pathology clinical fellowship (CF) position for the 2019-20 year. The Clinical Fellowship provides experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, swallowing disorders/dysphagia and voice disorders. Specialty areas in head & neck cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, TBI, trach/vent, AAC, and transgender voice are also offered. The Speech-Language Pathology department has 4.5 SLPs and is co-located with Audiology and Otolaryngology, which facilitates our interdisciplinary approach to patient care, including head and neck cancer patients in particular. Our department serves acute and subacute inpatients, outpatients (in-clinic and telehealth), and rehabilitation residents of the Community Living Center. Over the course of the rotation, the Clinical Fellow can expect to have a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience to include training in swallow evaluations (bedside, fluoroscopic, and endoscopic), endoscopic voice evaluations (flexible and rigid), post laryngectomy voice restoration, language and cognitive therapy, participation in comprehensive rehab teams for ALS, Parkinson’s, and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition. The CF will work with a variety of specialty services and teams via interdisciplinary rounds and collaboration, including: Otolaryngology, General Medicine Hospitalist teams, Nursing, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, SCI, and Primary Care.

Located in the high desert of northern New Mexico, Albuquerque experiences four seasons a year which allows for the enjoyment of one of the most diverse geographical regions in the country year round. The Speech-Language Pathology Section at MVAHCS is pleased to announce two (2) Clinical Fellowship positions available for Fiscal Year 2020, with desired start in Summer 2019.

 

Clinical Fellows participate in a truly interdisciplinary team approach to evaluation and treatment of veterans and service members served within the medical center.  Veterans served cross the age span from young adult through older adult populations. CFs evaluate and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders related to stroke, head and neck cancer, TBI & Polytrauma and a wide variety of other medical diagnoses. They may provide aural rehabilitation and Transgender communication services as well.  CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment procedures including modified barium swallows, FEES, and stroboscopy. Many therapies may be delivered via a range of Clinical Video Telehealth options. CFs are active participants in the care of patients in medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units (acute, subacute), outpatient clinics, and intensive care units.  They participate in interdisciplinary conferences and rounds, family conferences, co-treatments with other service providers, group therapy sessions, community outings and local and national outcomes data collection (e.g. FIM, NOMS and other outcome measures). There may be opportunities to participate in research as well. CFs are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the many continuing education experiences offered within the hospital and community.  The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is a specialty site for Assistive Technology, a TBI Center of Excellence, and is one of five recognized Polytrauma Centers in the VA. MVAHCS offers CARF-accredited programs in inpatient rehabilitation for amputation, brain Injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury; residential transitional rehabilitation for brain Injury, outpatient brain injury and spinal cord injury, assistive technology, and chronic pain.

The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is a dynamic hospital comprised of 180 hospital beds (Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, Blind Rehabilitation and Psychiatric Health) as well as 120 Community Living Center (CLC) beds and a dedicated Hospice Unit.  The WPB VAMC serves as a Polytrauma Clinic Support Team (Level III) and provides services for Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom  and Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) veterans. In addition, we provide telemedicine services to veterans in the community and in their homes, and we are in the process of launching our Home Care Program. Veterans also participate in treatment and support groups facilitated by the speech-language pathologists focusing on Parkinson’s Disease, Post-CVA Communication Skills, and Laryngectomy.

The Clinical Fellow will engage in a professionally challenging year gaining experience in evaluation and evidence based treatment of adults with dysphagia, cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria and voice disorders. The candidate will also develop skills in fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. In addition, the Clinical Fellow will receive training in assistive technology (AAC) for augmenting communication and cognition. We also work closely with the OEF/OIF/OND population, addressing their speech, language, and cognitive concerns. Veterans are seen along the continuum of care, including ER admission, intensive/acute care, short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, outpatient and telemedicine rehabilitation. Our Speech-Language Pathology section maintains close interaction with a variety of specialty services, including Audiology, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Neurology, Psychology, Social Work, Pulmonary Medicine, Neuropsychology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Nutrition & Food Service, Blind Rehabilitation, and Prosthetics & Sensory Aid Service. The Speech-Language Pathologists coordinate the Comprehensive ALS Interdisciplinary Team at our facility, which will provide a rich clinical experience.

We are a Level III Polytrauma Clinic Support Team, we provide Telehealth services to the home, our Speech Pathology section interacts closely with a variety of teams including Otolaryngology, Radiology, Nutrition, Geriatrics, Spinal Cord, to name a few. We are part of the CARF accredited acute rehab unit, and work closely with the surgical intensive care and medical intensive care units as well as our Community Living Center. The Clinical Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience with instrumental exams (fluoroscopy, FEES, videostroboscopy) as well as various special populations (Head & Neck Cancer, Transgender, alaryngeal speech/tracheoesophageal puncture, cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, ALS/alternative/augmentative communication systems).

The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for inpatients, out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care) and residents of our CLC for Veteran populations ranging from young adult to geriatric. The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including dysphagia, cognitive-communicative impairment, aphasia, dysarthria and voice. The CF may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and voice, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population and experience with certified LSVT clinicians as the SFVA Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA.

Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialties, P.C. in Lincoln, NE is seeking an audiology extern for the 2019-2020 academic year. ENT Specialties is a busy practice of 3 Audiologists, 7 ENT physicians, and 2 Physician’s Assistants; providing an excellent well-rounded externship experience.

We provide a full scope of audiologic and rehabilitation services to children and adults including, comprehensive basic audiometry and immittance, OAE, ABR, hearing aid and bone-anchored device dispensing. Externs are allowed to take part in fitting and following-up with hearing aid patients independently. Vestibular experience can be coordinated with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Vestibular Lab.
