JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide speech and language therapy for students with communicative disabilities in order to reduce or eliminate impairments which adversely affect interpersonal relationships or educational performance.

QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed by the Board of Speech Pathologists and Audiologists of the State of Montana.

REQUIREMENTS:

Description

The School District of West Salem is right next door to La Crosse in the beautiful Coulee Region of Western Wisconsin. Our 3 buildings are within walking distance of each other on an approximate 100-acre campus on the edge of town. Students in grades 4-12 are issued MacBooks or iPads as part of its 1:1 digital learning environment. The ability to integrate technology in the development of daily lessons that engage students is desired. Having a passion for teaching and for providing an exciting, meaningful, and rewarding experience for students is a must!

CF Position Available at the Dayton VAMC

Dayton VAMC is pleased to announce the following opportunity:  

Clinical Fellowship in Medical Speech Pathology for the 2020–2021 year.

The Dayton VA is a level 1C-high complexity facility. Historically, it is one of three VA’s commissioned by President Lincoln.  Our grounds are vast and picturesque with the primary hospital building as the main medical facility for INPT and OPT.  There is also another newly remodeled building for a large CLC and residential care. The CF will be involved in speech pathology programs across the continuum of care.

The Clinical Fellowship stipend is for 1 year and is considered a TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT without the potential to become a permanent position. The CF position is 40 hours per week with a compensation package that includes salary, health benefits and sick/annual leave.

The Clinical Fellowship will begin as early as July 27, 2020 or as late as August 17, 2020.

The CF will gain experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, fluency, TBI, AAC and voice disorders in a variety of settings including ICU, acute care, inpatient rehab, extended care, outpatient and telehealth.  The CF can expect training in MBSS, FEES,  videostroboscopy, trach/vent, post laryngectomy voice restoration, augmentative communication devices and TeleSpeech services.   The CF could also have opportunities with speciality services including hospice, intensive care and work closely with ENT, inpatient rehabilitation unit, Polytrauma, and TBI team.

Education/Licenses/Certifications: Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited university, Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association; Must have WA State Speech Language Pathologist license, and current AHA CPR Card.

CF SLP Positions at the Lavi Institute (CA)

The Lavi Institute is currently looking to hire three CF SLPs for research/clinical based positions that focus on assessment of articulation and language (school age group) as well as social communication in children with ASD. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain clinical and research experience in research data collection, interpretation of results and research article preparation.

  • Conduct evaluations and reevaluations to determine initial/continuing eligibility for Special Education services.
  • Participate as a member of IEP teams and develop IEPs for students receiving SLP services.
  • Provide specially designed instruction and/or related services for eligible students.
  • Participate in building-based teams and work cooperatively with school staff in planning appropriate interventions for eligible students.
  • Work collaboratively with other district SLPs regarding service delivery models, program/building assignments, staff development, and other related issues.

Evidence-Based Aphasia Treatment: Principles and Procedures for the Practicing Clinician

Presented by Leora R. Cherney, PhD, BC-ANCDS, CCC-SLP

In recent years, there has been a proliferation of research targeting various aspects of aphasia treatment. These range from studies addressing the development, theoretical underpinnings and efficacy of specific treatments to more general issues such as intensity and dose that impact learning and outcomes, regardless of the treatment being administered.

This workshop describes the procedures for administering several of the newest aphasia treatment techniques, emphasizing their theoretical background and current evidence supporting their efficacy. Treatments that target impairment and activity-participation levels will be included. Practical issues such as dosage and service delivery models that improve access to and outcomes from treatment will be discussed.

Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe components related to “dose” of aphasia therapy.
  • List procedures for administering at least four evidence-based aphasia treatments.
  • Differentiate impairment and activity/participation level treatments.
  • Explain the importance of considering social/life participation approaches in the treatment of aphasia.

This course is designed for practicing speech-language pathologists who have an intermediate to advanced level of experience with persons with apraxia of speech and aphasia.
