SLP CF Position Available – VA Salt Lake City, UT

The George E Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Salt Lake City, UT is pleased to announce the availability of one Clinical Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology, to begin late Summer or early Fall of 2018.  This one-year position will be full-time  (40 hours/week) and pays $39,226 + benefits.

The SLC VAMC is located on a 70 acre campus situated at the foot of the rugged Wasatch Mountains overlooking the city below.  The area offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities including hiking, biking, and world class skiing & cultural venues including concerts, theatre, and dining opportunities.

The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 121 – bed tertiary care facility serving Veterans residing within a 25,000 square mile area within VISN 19. It is closely affiliated with the University of Utah School of Medicine. SLC VAMC offers traditional and specialty care services including pathology, radiology, neurology, nuclear medicine and psychiatry.  We provide Telehealth services to Veterans living in rural settings and are a Polytrauma Clinic Support Team (Level III) providing services for OEF/OIF veterans. Our Speech-Language Pathology Section maintains close interaction with a variety of  teams  including Radiology, Geriatrics, Otolaryngology, Nutrition, Prosthetics & Sensory Aids, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

The Clinical Fellow will engage in a professionally challenging year gaining experience in evaluation and treatment of adults with dysphagia (fluoroscopy & FEES), cognitive communication impairments,  aphasia, dysarthria and voice disorders including special populations (i.e. H&N Cancer and Transgender).  Additionally, there will be an opportunity to work closely with the Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech Research Lab.

SLP CF Position – VA Madison, WI

SPEECH PATHOLOGY CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

A CFY position in speech-language pathology is available through the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the William S. Middleton Veterans Affairs Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.  This will be a blended fellowship training experience incorporating training through the Speech Pathology section and the GRECC. The Speech Pathology Section serves inpatients, outpatients, and residents of a Community Living Center.  CF will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies.  All CFs will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, and voice disorders.  They will also gain specialized experience in cognitive rehabilitation for veterans with mTBI, neurogenic communication disorders, endoscopic procedures (FEES and videostroboscopy), and laryngectomy care. CF will also participate in several weekly Geriatric based interdisciplinary clinics. Trainees will be integrated directly into these interdisciplinary geriatrics teams and through administration of standardized screening tools, will identify those Veterans who would benefit from additional dysphagia, speech/language, or cognitive intervention from the Speech Pathology service.  We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, geriatrics, and dysphagia research, as well as a desire to grow professionally in a fast-paced, learning-oriented medical setting.

  • These are temporary appointments without potential to become permanent positions. 
  • Applicants with a strong academic background and/or clinical experience in neuroscience, neurogenic cognitive/ communication disorders, voice, and dysphagia are preferred.

Play based speech and occupational therapy for a 5 year old

We’re looking for someone to teach and play with our soon to be 5-year old son on the spectrum. He is a smart, sweet-natured kid, affectionate with adults and easy to get along with.

With guidance from our therapists, we have devised a home program that currently includes some speech exercises as well as physical exercises targeting gross and fine-motor skills. Training will be provided to you by professionals (highly regarded speech and OT therapists and special educators) and parents. We’re looking for a cheerful, firm and goal-oriented person who is motivated to see our kid progress through this program at home.

We are located near downtown Bellevue. Preferred times are between 3-6pm and we are flexible on days. This is a long-term position and an ideal opportunity for a student looking to pursue a career in education/child development/physical therapy/speech therapy and related fields. The position will include evaluation and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients of various disorders within a variety of settings. You will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, SCI, Medicine, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies.  You will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of individuals with dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy. You may also gain specialized experience in cognitive rehabilitation for veterans with TBI/polytrauma, and laryngectomy care. The appointments would begin in August of 2018 and are temporary without potential to become permanent positions. Approximate salary is $43,000 plus benefits.
