San Francisco VA Health Care System Speech Pathology Clinical Fellowship Opportunity

The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for inpatients,  out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care) and residents of our CLC for Veteran populations ranging from young adult to geriatric.   The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including dysphagia, cognitive-communicative impairment, aphasia, dysarthria and voice.  The CF may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and voice, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population and experience with certified LSVT clinicians as the SFVA Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA.

The SFVA Medical Center is an integral part of the medical residency program of UCSF and enjoys a dynamic teaching/learning environment.  The CF will interact with a variety of specialty services, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery,  General Surgery, Critical Care,  Otolaryngology, Radiology, Pulmonary, OT/PT, N&FS, Nursing, Palliative Care and Respiratory Therapy.

We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology with internship experience in the acute care medical setting and a desire to learn in a fast-paced medical setting.

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of SLP – California State University, San Marcos

TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY (REF#17.18-07 ) EFFECTIVE DATE:  Mid‐August, 2018

THE POSITION:  California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks Tenure Track faculty for an academic year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor who has expertise and qualifications  in child language and/or literacy development/disorders.  The successful applicant may teach  in both the MS, BS, and Preparation programs through face to face and online modalities.   This individual will also be expected to mentor students, serve on culminating experience committees as chair and/or member; develop and maintain a research program; serve on department, college and university‐level committees, and supervise graduate students in clinical placements.  As part of a growing department within the College of Education, Health and Human Services, the successful candidate will serve an important role in the ongoing success of the MS and development and advancement of the BS and preparation programs, and will enhance the education of students  through experiential learning and simulations. QUALIFICATIONS:  Earned doctorate in a field appropriate to Speech Language Pathology.  ABD candidates will be considered, but must have completed the doctorate at the time of appointment (August 2018).  Candidate must have California SLP State License and ASHA CCC (or eligibility to obtain both).  The successful candidate has experience in teaching adults in face to face and online instruction at the MS and/or BS level, and must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus.  The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and sustain a rigorous path towards retention, tenure and promotion as described in CSUSM policy.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   Expertise in multicultural populations or bilingual language development is desired. Preference will be given to bilingual candidates who may be able to support supervision of graduate students with bilingual/bicultural populations. CSUSM places great value upon the development of educational and research partnerships within the community and candidates with a history of interprofessional collaboration and/or community‐based collaboration are desirable. Philosophical alignment with the Department of Speech Language Pathology Mission  is desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.

HSDC Behnke Preschool Volunteer Opportunity, Seattle

Behnke Preschool is a unique preschool with an emphasis on language and literacy. Our curriculum is progressive, developmental, and multi-sensory with individualization. We take a theme-based approach to learning and integrate early math, science, social studies, language, music, art, and social skills into fun and interactive activities. We serve children with and without hearing loss and/or speech-language delays.

Work Description:
We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about working with young children (ages three to five) and who enjoy promoting learning through language, reading, and fun! Classroom volunteers are expected to engage with children, which may include reading books, supporting art projects, engaging in pretend play, and encouraging positive social interactions. In addition to playing with the children, we may ask our volunteers to assist the teachers with prep work or handling of materials as needed. During snack time we ask that you help prepare snack items as well as wash the cups and bowls when finished. Additionally, volunteers are welcome to read our daily story if they would like a more hands-on experience!

Impact:

The students work directly with the children making an impact on their lives now and in the future. One parent states: “We really appreciate all of the time, effort, and attention to detail that the teachers put into making the classroom a special, fun, and engaging place for the kids. SLP Voice & Swallowing CF Position – University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, New York

Clinical Fellowship in Voice & Upper Airway

UR Medicine – Strong Memorial Hospital is a leading academic healthcare institution located in Rochester, NY between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region. Strong Memorial Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center accommodating approximately 800 acute inpatient beds. UR Medicine is the Region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center and also holds an Acute Rehabilitation Unit that is both CARF and Magnet accredited.  The Voice Center is part of the University of Rochester’s Department of Otolaryngology which consists of 19 otolaryngology physicians, with specialties in pediatrics, otology / neurotology, rhinology, allergy, sleep medicine, head and neck cancer, laryngology, and facial plastics. The Voice Center consists of two fellowship trained laryngologists, and five speech-language pathologists who specialize in the treatment of voice, professional voice, breathing and swallowing disorders.

The Voice Center is seeking a qualified graduate student of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program to complete a 12-month, full-time, paid clinical fellowship.  This fellowship will be focused on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with voice, breathing, upper airway and swallowing disorders.

Job Description:
July 1, 2018 through June 30th, 2019
Full Time 40 hours Speech Pathology

Position Summary:
The clinical fellow will be mentored by a certified speech-language pathologist and work as part of a team in the interdisciplinary laryngology clinic. He or she will be responsible for completing evaluations and developing individualized treatment plans, participating in weekly voice team meetings, presenting an educational lecture to the speech-language pathology department, attending monthly departmental and educational meetings and completing daily documentation and billing through the electronic medical record system.
The clinical fellowship year at the Voice Center will provide the opportunity to gain experience and training in the areas of acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment, stroboscopy, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing studies, modified barium swallow studies, in-clinic swallowing evaluations, and therapy for voice, swallowing and breathing disorders. In addition, opportunities will be provided for observation of laryngeal imaging, assessment and specialized procedures including bronchoscopy, laryngeal EMG and Botox injections with the laryngologists. Candidates should also be prepared to be involved in the assessment and treatment of other adult speech and language disorders (i.e., dysarthria, fluency).

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Interested candidates should have a strong interest and background in the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing and breathing disorders as demonstrated through their graduate coursework and/ or clinical internships. The candidate must have completed their master’s level coursework at an accredited University program in speech-language pathology prior to beginning the position. The candidate must have a strong academic background, be highly motivated and independent and be ready to work in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment.  Experience working with transgender or singing voice clients is a plus.

Opportunity for an Audiology Technician at McChord AFB

Duties: The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at Lamar University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Speech-Language Pathology. The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers three degree programs: B.S. in Speech and Hearing Science, M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, and Au.D. in Audiology. Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field with CCCSLP and Texas license, or eligible. Those currently working on a doctoral degree will be considered. SPEECH PATHOLOGY CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES – VA PUGET SOUND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System Clinical Fellowships provide experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, swallowing disorders/dysphagia and voice disorders.  The Clinical Fellow will have opportunity for training in performing fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition.   The Clinical Fellow works closely with a variety of specialty services and teams, including Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Primary Care, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Care Teams, Spinal Cord Injury and Disease Unit, and the Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Program.

The yearlong Clinical Fellowships are divided into 4 separate rotations, located at both the Seattle and American Lake Division. The Seattle division includes experiences in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and spinal cord injury units, a community living center, and specialty outpatient clinics (ALS, Head and Neck, Otolaryngology). The American Lake division (in Lakewood, Washington) focuses on experiences in general outpatient, the community living center, and the Polytrauma clinic and team (VA Puget Sound provides Polytrauma Care (Level II) services for OEF/OIF veterans). Outcomes/Evidence based practice for treatment across communicative, cognitive and swallowing disorders is emphasized.
