THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders is one of 19 departments and programs within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). It has a three-pronged mission of teaching, research, and service in speech-language pathology and audiology. The Department currently has approximately 120 undergraduate and 120 graduate majors, four tenured/tenure-track faculty, two full time clinical faculty (including a clinic director), two half-time speech language pathologists, 5 lecturers, and 3 part-time clinical supervisors. The Norma S. and Ray R. Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic includes eleven observable individual and group therapy rooms, one large group room, an aphasia treatment program (ATP), a conference room, and an audiology test suite. Three labs are currently housed in the department: a fully equipped Speech Science Lab, the Early Social Communication Research Clinic, and an Augmentative and Alternative Communication Lab. The Department is accredited by ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in speech-language pathology and is authorized to grant the Speech Language Hearing Services Credential approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise in speech-language pathology or audiology. The candidate may be assigned supervision of students in clinical work as part of their teaching responsibilities. In addition to teaching, all faculty are expected to sustain a record of scholarly work, advise majors, assist the department with administrative and/or committee work, and assume campus-wide committee responsibilities.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization.

Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology or a closely related field by effective date of appointment is required. Possession of CCC and eligibility for California licensure is required. Prior teaching experience in higher education preferred. Interest in sustained research and grant writing is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate prior demonstrate experience in teaching, research, mentoring, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
