JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under supervision of the Director of Student Support services will provide itinerant SLP services for students with communication disorders, in special and regular education classroom, from preschool through 12th grade. Other duties as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Provide itinerant SLP services for students with communication disorders, in special and regular education classroom, from preschool through 12th grade.
  • Screen, evaluate, select and schedule caseload, and provide therapy services, including in-class intervention for students with communication disorders.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, peers, and other support staff, parents and the community.
  • Develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives.
  • Adapt the professional role of Speech/Language Pathology to the public schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of an Education Staff Associate certificate for Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology required.
  • CCC in Speech/Language Pathology (CFY available).
  • Knowledge of state and school district rules and regulations.
  • Experience in working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Skills in assessing students and providing feedback as a member of a multidisciplinary assessment team.
  • Skills in programming activities to promote interactive objectives.
  • Skills in programming based on the developmental level of students and functional skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
To work as a transdisciplinary team member serving children with disabilities the Experimental Education Unit.

  • Provide assessment, diagnostic services, and therapy;
  • Develop and implement programs to meet the needs of children with a variety of communication needs;
  • Serve as consultant to classroom teachers in their classroom management of communication and language programs;
  • Record communication behaviors, analyze data, plan programs based on data, and measure progress;
  • Attend team meetings, share expertise, and contribute to the problem solving process;
  • Supervise and provide training for University students.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in speech pathology with emphasis on communication and language disorders; doctoral student preferred;
  • American Speech and Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence, preferred;
  • Washington Certification ESA;
  • Observation and data collection skills;
  • Experience working with children with developmental delays preferred.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Maintain a “problem solving” attitude
  • Work with other team members in a cooperative and positive fashion
  • Seek feedback and utilize suggestions to improve performance

Are you a first-generation college student?

Are you a current UW student and at least 18 years of age?

Are you interested in making up to $500 this Winter quarter?

If so, consider volunteering for the UW Libraries Participatory Design study. The process will involve one or more interactive and creative activities per session. Participants and the UW Libraries will collaboratively work together to identify and create a UW Libraries service or resource that meets the specific needs of first-generation college students.

Selected participants will:

  • Be compensated at $25 per session. Payment will be distributed monthly via Husky Card or gift card.
  • Have refreshments at each session
  • Commit to two 1.5 hour sessions per week this Winter Quarter (1/6/20 – 3/13/20).
  • Have the opportunity to co-design and present research about the study.

Additional details about the study will be discussed at the first session.
