Position Summary

The Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or Clinical Fellow (CF) is a core member of the HopeSparks Children’s Developmental Services Program which focuses on providing quality Early Intervention Services to infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities and delays throughout areas of Pierce County.

The SLP or CF will provide therapy to infants and toddlers, in their natural environment, who need intervention and support with feeding, social communication, early language development, early speech sound development, and communication through adaptive means. Collaboration with the child’s families and caregivers is essential. The SLP or CF will provide parent coaching and reflective practice to additionally support families and caregivers.

The SLP or CF will meet regularly with parents and caregivers to provide developmentally appropriate therapeutic intervention as directed by the family and child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). This person will also coordinate closely with the child’s Family Resources Coordinator (FRC) and multidisciplinary Children’s Developmental Services Team, which may consist of additional providers such as an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and/or Special Educator.

  • Must possess a positive attitude and friendly manner with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Intermediate level of computer skills: application knowledge in Word, Excel, and Google Calendar, Docs, and Mail
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license, automobile for on the job use, and proof of current automobile insurance

Job Conditions

All speech-language services are provided in the child and family’s natural environment, which is typically in the child’s home, community, and/or telehealth.   • Professional interaction with one or more supervising SLPs during weekly one on ones
  • Review of completed documentation on children to be added to caseload prior to start of service
  • Providing direct therapy services addressing treatment goals developed by the supervising SLP to meet the needs of the client, including offering parent participation during treatment to encourage parent involvement and training.
  • Monitor treatment progress by administering and scoring screenings for clinical interpretation by the SLP
  • Participate with team members on a regular basis and provide inter‐disciplinary consultations with other therapists as needed
  • Complete written daily treatment notes to document services rendered
  • Maintain records on each child as mandated to monitor progress
  • Monitor and track caseload requirements with on‐going new referrals
  • Participate in staff development/training opportunities
  • Attend Bi‐monthly team meetings
  • Developing low tech AAC materials and programming high tech AAC devices as needed
  • Commuting to our Early Learning Center to provide group‐based speech therapy to preschool students using both pull‐out and push‐in service delivery models and collaborating with their teachers as needed

Required:

  • Valid Washington DOH Certified Speech and Language Pathology Assistant license

Position Summary:

The Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellow (CF) will be mentored under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients across the continuum of scope including swallowing, speech, language, cognition, voice and alternative means of communication across all hospital units.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of M.A. or M.S. degree in an accredited speech-language pathology program
  • Previous clinical experience providing direct patient care in a medical setting and prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
