DESCRIPTION:

Swedish Medical Group is looking for an Audiology Technician Assistant (1.0 FTE, Day shift) to work for the Otolaryngology Clinic at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Audiology Technician is responsible for demonstrating the Swedish values of patient-centered care and service; respect, caring and compassion; teamwork and partnership; continuous learning and improvement; and leadership.

In this position you will:

• Prepare patients for audiological tests, including rooming patients and documenting medical history
• Assist with audiology testing under supervision of Audiologist
• Adjust hearing aids, implantable technology devices and other amplification systems
• Manage device orders and repairs
• Provide administrative support, including maintaining electronic medical records and answering phones

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required qualifications for this position include:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Current clinic certification (medical assistant, nursing assistant, or licensed practical nurse)
• Experience working with patients with profound hearing loss
• Understanding of audiology-related devices

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

• Electronic medical records experience

West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center

 The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is a dynamic hospital comprised of 180 hospital beds (Intensive Care, Acute Medicine, Blind Rehabilitation and Psychiatric Health) as well as 120 Community Living Center (CLC) beds and a dedicated Hospice Unit.  More than 64,000 veterans receive health care at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center annually.  We are affiliated with the University of Miami School of Medicine and train medical interns, residents, and fellows in their specialties.  Our facility provides primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and rehabilitation medicine.  The WPB VAMC serves as a Polytrauma Clinic Support Team (Level III) and provides services for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) Veterans. In addition, we provide telemedicine services to veterans in the community and in their homes. In addition, Veterans participate in treatment and support groups facilitated by the speech-language pathologists focusing on Parkinson’s Disease, Post-CVA Communication Skills, and Laryngectomy.
The Clinical Fellow will engage in a professionally challenging year gaining experience in evaluation and treatment of adults with dysphagia, cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria and voice disorders. The candidate will also develop expertise in performing fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. In addition, the Clinical Fellow can expect training in assistive technology (AAC) for augmenting communication and cognition. We also work closely with the OEF/OIF population, addressing their speech, language, and cognitive concerns.  Patients are seen along the continuum of care, including ER admission, intensive/acute care, short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, outpatient and telemedicine rehabilitation. Our Speech-Language Pathology section maintains close interaction with a variety of specialty services, including Otolaryngology, Radiology, Neurology, Psychology, Social Work,  Pulmonary Medicine, Neuropsychology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Nutrition & Food Service,  Blind Rehabilitation, and Prosthetics & Sensory Aid Service. The Speech-Language Pathologists have launched and coordinate the Comprehensive ALS Interdisciplinary Team at our facility, which will provide a rich clinical experience.

 

VA Medical Center West Palm Beach is located on Florida’s sunny southeast coast. The area offers a variety of land and sea recreational  activities including an abundance of world class golf courses, parks,  pristine beaches, and bike paths. The Palm Beaches offer a fascinating array of cultural venues including concerts,  theater,  shopping, and excellent dining opportunities.

§  The CF position is  twelve months. Tentatively scheduled to begin early September 2017.

Position Information:

Full-time, 12 months, clinical fellowships are being offered at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center (CDRC). This fellowship is co-sponsored by the Division of Speech Language Pathology and the Institute on Development and Disability at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at the CDRC is recognized as one of the premier programs in the country for training leadership in clinical care and coordination, family systems, education, public policy, community resources, and advocacy for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, utilizing an interdisciplinary model. Our LEND program includes faculty and a cohort of 16 long term trainees from 12 disciplines including speech-language pathology annually.

Training Program Description for Speech-Language Pathology

The LEND post degree Fellowship Program is primarily clinical in nature. The CDRC Clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the primary clinical training setting, are staffed by our faculty of 9 speech-language pathologists. Training experiences include interdisciplinary team assessments in the Craniofacial, Feeding, Autism, Down Syndrome, Child Development, and Neurodevelopment Clinics. The fellowship also includes treatment of children with communication disorders, at a community placement or at CDRC Clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

In addition to clinical experience, the Clinical Fellow will also participate in

• Interdisciplinary training in the LEND program, including weekly interdisciplinary seminars with topics related to community outreach, family issues that affect children with developmental disabilities, leadership, and policy development
• Participation in a family mentoring experience
• A research project and presentation under the guidance of a mentor
• Leadership and teaching opportunities, as well as opportunities for continuing education

Qualifications Applicants must submit:

• Applicants must be a US Citizen or have a permanent residency Visa, have the minimum of a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, a conditional license to practice in the state of Oregon, and meet all the requirements for certification except the Clinical Fellowship. Applicants must be able to pass a background check and a drug screen.

Terms

Modest stipends, will be available for the 2017-18 academic year. Stipends are contingent upon continued grant funding. Fellowships are funded by a grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The beginning date for the fellowship is the first week of September. Once selected, trainees will be required to demonstrate that they have health insurance, all required vaccinations, conditional Oregon State Licensure, and pass a background check and drug screen.

The audiologist will work mostly with the adult population, performing diagnostic tests which include audiometry, tympanometry, DPOAE, Eustachian tube dysfunction and Canalith repositioning. Other responsibilities include managing both walk in and scheduled patients, counseling, dispensing hearing aids that best suit the patient and their needs, as well as initiating, developing and supporting various marketing activities.
