Position Description

Join our team of professionals in an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center (RHC) in Shoreline, WA as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). In this role, you will provide help and healing while partnering with a variety of medical, behavioral, and other professionals committed to inspiring individuals with intellectual disabilities while respecting their dignity and privacy. Our Person- Centered programs and services are individualized and designed to enhance self-determination and maximize independence. As a Speech Language Pathologist / Audiologist 2, you will develop and implement SLP services to individuals with developmental disabilities and assess verbal/non-verbal language ability in auditory/visual processing. Your role also assesses for voice disorders, articulation problems, and sensory-neural speech mechanism problems.

 

Job Location: 

The Fircrest RHC Campus is an approximately 90-acre property located in Shoreline, Washington, just north of Seattle. Fircrest has excellent access to the major medical and educational facilities that support the individuals who reside at Fircrest. Its location also allows the individuals who reside at Fircrest, and employees who live in the area, the opportunity to participate in many of the sporting, cultural and outdoor events held in the Seattle area. The campus has many mature trees and several forested areas. There are also multiple gardens on the campus and the local Hamlin Park is adjacent to the campus and offers beautiful walking paths and picnic areas. Nature abounds at Fircrest!

 

Additional Information:

  • This position participates in an alternative work week (Tuesday through Friday – 10-hours per day).
  • This King County job pays an additional 5% on top of the advertised salary!
  • Fircrest employees also receive an ORCA Card (public transportation) for travel.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Implement formal and informal communication programs/interventions to address identified communication needs
  • Administer speech-language tests related to articulation, and expressive and receptive language; evaluate, provide recommendations, and monitor clients with dysphagia
  • Serve as a contact between audiologist and staff regarding client hearing ability and hearing aid services
  • Work within interdisciplinary teams and develop communication plans that support identified, prioritized Individual Habilitation Plans/Individual Plans of Care
  • Assist individuals to the extent and level necessary to promote choice and independence
  • Design and construct adaptive equipment for communication
  • Create communication displays using Boardmaker and other graphic software
  • Utilize various Augmentative Communication Devices (e.g., picture communication systems, speech-generating devices, iPads)

 

Professionals with the following should apply:

  • A Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology or Communicative Disorders (or documentation of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association approved equivalent to Master’s degree consisting of approved curriculum and student practicum hours)
  • AND, a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • WA State Speech Pathologist License within 60 days of hire
  • Experience as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) is preferred

Responsibilities Include:

  • Evaluation of patients from the age of 0 to 99+ in all patient care settings
  • Design and implementation of a care plan
  • Accurate and timely documentation at all facilities served
  • Collaboration with physicians, nursing, respiratory, dietary, and other treatment disciplines in order to meet our unique patient needs
  • Participation in team conferences, rounds, and meetings
