CFY Henry Ford Health System

Clinical Fellowship Opportunities at Henry Ford Health System

Henry Ford Health System is accepting applications for 3 speech-language pathology clinical fellowship positions for the 2022-2023 academic year. The opportunities include adult acute care, pediatric outpatient, and adult outpatient. The fellowships are 12 months in duration and are composed of a series of clinical rotations in the area of emphasis and observation experiences in other areas (e.g. specialty clinics). Clinical fellows will be supervised by
a variety of clinicians to expand their repertoire of clinical practice patterns.

The adult acute care fellow will gain expertise in evaluation and continued assessment with various patient populations including neurological disorders, brain tumor, surgical patients, and ventilator/tracheostomy
dependent patients. We ask that applicants have internship experience in an acute care medical setting, basic understanding of cranial nerves, ability to differentially diagnose aphasia and dysarthria, and basic knowledge of dysphagia diagnosis and treatment.

The pediatric outpatient fellow will gain expertise in evaluation and treatment of outpatient pediatric populations with a variety of communication disorders including mixed expressive receptive language delay/disorder, developmental articulation/phonological disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, and autism. We ask that applicants have internship experience in pediatric speech-language pathology with children under the age of 5, a strong
interest in pediatrics, and a strong desire to increase knowledge and skill in working with children across a range of communication disorders.

The adult outpatient fellow will learn to provide services in all areas of medical speech-language pathology (aphasia, cognitive-communicative disorders, dysphagia, voice/upper airway, motor speech disorders) and gain specialized experience in videofluoroscopic evaluation of swallowing (VFSS), flexible fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), laryngeal videostroboscopy, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), respiratory muscle strength training (RMST/EMST), gender affirming voice treatment, and telemedicine. Applicants with a
special interest in voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders may be intrigued by this fellowship, as our outpatient team works closely with our fellowship-trained laryngologists and operates an interdisciplinary clinic at two satellite locations in Metro Detroit.

How to Apply:
Email a cover letter, resume, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation to Jennifer Peacock by March 1, 2022. Cover letter MUST include the specialty for which you are applying (pediatric outpatient, adult outpatient, or inpatient acute care).
