Job Summary: Provides speech/language, oral-motor, and feeding therapy services, as appropriate, to the birth to three-year-old population within a medical and educational model. Evaluation, assessment, treatment, and consultation services are provided using an interdisciplinary, family-centered, and culturally diverse approach.

Education, Training, and/or Work Experience:
• Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
required
• Experience working in a field of social services or early intervention preferred
• Infant/toddler communication therapy training and/or experience preferred

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required; Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) may be considered in lieu of CCC
• Current Washington State Professional License through the Department of Health
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of required
personal liability insurance
• Must have clean WA State driving record, as defined by HRC’s agency insurance policy
• Current CPR/First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain within first 60 (sixty) days of employment
• Current Washington State Food Worker Card, if requested, or ability to obtain within first 60
(sixty) days of employment

2024-2025 Clinical Fellowship Announcement

CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP YEAR (CFY) IN MEDICAL SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

 

The James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL announces the availability of (1) Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) opportunity.  Recruitment will begin immediately. Applications will be accepted through April 12, 2024.

Must be a US Citizen and must be fully vaccinated before beginning employment and/or training rotations.

The appointment is for 12 months, 2080 hours, with a planned start date in late summer/early fall 2024.  There is a stipend of $41,206 paid to the selected candidate.

The Tampa Healthcare System is level 1a complexity facility, providing timely and efficacious health care to Veterans and Active Duty Service Members. Speech Pathology services are located at the main hospital. However, our facility has 16 community-based outpatient clinics in the greater Tampa Bay area. We are designated 1 of 5 Polytrauma Centers which includes the Interdisciplinary Evaluation and Treatment Program (ITEP). Additionally, we have a Spinal Cord Injury/Disease center (SCI, ALS, MS), a Community Living Center, and a robust Home Based Primary Care service.

The Speech Pathology Section is part of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service and serves inpatients and outpatients across the care continuum. Our referrals come from Primary Care, Physical Medicine and Rehab, Mental Health, Medicine, Surgery, ENT, Pulmonology, Neurology, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Endocrinology, Oncology, Radiology, etc. We provide care both face-to-face and via Telehealth.  The fellowship will offer inpatient and outpatient experiences with diagnosis and treatment of swallowing (including MBS and FEES), communication (dysarthria, aphasia, voice (including Videostroboscopy)), transgender care, and cognitive disorders, as well as experience with tracheostomy/mechanical ventilation and post-laryngectomy and TE prostheses care.

Our campus is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast in Tampa, which is a quick trip to Orlando and the west coast beaches. In addition, Tampa is known for local attractions such as the Florida Aquarium, ZooTampa, Busch Gardens, manatee viewing, museums, and sporting events. Come join us in sunny Florida!

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for a variety of duties related to the evaluation of students with communication delays/disorders and IEP design and implementation.

Reports to and evaluated by: Director of Special Education

This includes:

  • Administering tests and interpreting results related to educational progress
  • Scheduling and attending meetings with parents and staff as required for evaluations and
  • IEPs
  • Providing therapy for identified students
  • Reporting progress at district directed intervals

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate and provide therapy for students with speech and language disorders
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary team (including psychologists, occupational therapists, general education teacher, etc) approach
  • Develop and write reports and IEPs in compliance with state and district guidelines
  • Supervise and train SLPAs and other staff as needed
  • Participate in the professional SLP community
  • Engage in on-going professional development
  • Counsel and guide parents, students and staff regarding speech and language disorders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences
  • Possess or qualify for an Educational Staff Associates credential
